Post subject: Storing programmes in acid-free bags |
|
|
Last week I ordered a large quantity of acid-free, paper-backed bags which arrived today.
However the site I ordered from (which did a good price compared to other ones I have seen) had sizes too small, and then jumped to sizes which were too large. I bought the large ones, and they arrived today.
The problem is, what do I do with the excess material? Do I fold it over, do I fold it and then sellotape it or stick it down with something else? Worth noting I will be regularly taking programmes out of their bags to read, so it needs to be quick and simple to take the programme out and put it back in.
I was just wondering what other people have done in this sort of situation. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Fold over and stick down at the side, trim off the excess at the top? |

On a similar tack, I store my programmes in plastic bags, the ones with the press closure, like freezer bags. They keep out the enemy air and so no moisture, and no dust. You could probably store them under water! Also you have easy access. I use A4 size generally and fill them with little stacks of smaller items all the same size. |

I would be very surprised if the staples used in modern programmes ever rust unless left outside and in which case rust would be the last of your problems
Really only concern is pre about 1970s, nothing to do with time it's composition of the metal. |

TBH I just get overly worried that they will get damaged in other ways, folds, creases etc. I shouldn't be worried, but it just makes me feel a bit safer in the knowledge that my programmes are safely tucked away in their bags. |

I wouldn't worry too much about modern programmes, they will outlast all of us. now if you've got programmes from the 1880s, that should give you something to think about... |
