Bloodly 'ell !!!!

And I thought the burnley v pompey postponed match in 72/73 was sought after.

Mind you there's some dodgy bidding going on there.........

And who would spend £185 on a 95/96 issue?

I know the Burnley v Oxford programme is quite rare, but £185.00! There must be something dodgy going on there.....

The Burnley v Portsmouth 72/73 programme is also rare, I have seen copies go for over £100.

Look at the bids.

A classic bidding war.

Someone is going to have a serious case of buyer's remorse I suspect.

It was one of the last ones I needed to obtain for my collection, took me a while to find it, so I reckon it is rare, but £200??

There is only 3 different people bid on it as well!!

I know one is an Oxford collector who paid a lot of money for Oxford Uniteds 1st ever league game in 1960 a couple of days ago!!

Being a collector of Oxford programmes myself ( luckily I have this programme) I always keep an eye on what's selling but I have to admit I was shocked when the other day when I saw this programme on about £30 and even more shocked at the price its at now.

The only oxford postponed's that I know or would say are worth any kind of money are a Portsmouth away from 69, Shrewsbury home from 77 and Rodney Smithson testimonial v spurs from 74.

I'm more surprised that 2 'experienced' eBayers are bidding against each other in this manner.
I personally prefer to use the 'sniper' technique by putting in my maximum bid with about 2 seconds remaining. Cuts out paying over the odds most times.

I know the Oxford collector puts early bids in on all the programmes he wants.

I had a lot of spare programmes that I started putting on ebay and gave a list to all the Oxford collectors of which he was one, he had a few off me but for some reason didn't have all the ones he wanted and ending up paying between £10 and £20 for a few that he could of had for less than £1.

I do that as too and it works well, but its bloody annoying when you think you've won it and get outbid with 2 seconds to go!!!

Then i know how other people feel when i do it to them!! Laughing

I have noticed the last couple of weeks that 80's bulk standard programmes have gone up in price though, not massively but whereas i could get some Swansea aways for 50p i,ve been bidding on a few this week and some have gone over £2, like i said earlier i know its not massive but makes me wonder are overall prices going up??

I wonder if the seller has two copies and offers the loser the second chance option?

I listed what I thought was a run of the mill non-league programme and two bidders soon started outbidding each other. I watched in amazement as the price rose sharply. I had two copies and offered the loser the second chance option. Kerr-ching!! Smile

There is a couple of Oxford collectors that pay a lot of money on a regular basis for some programmes.

I think the most I've paid on ebay is about £180 twice for 2 teamsheets from 1961 but I certainly wouldn't pay that for a programme as recent as the burnley one.

I've got pretty much every Oxford programme from 1960 to present day league, cup, friendly, postponed and minor cups I now need less than 50, I've been quiet lucky recently and added about 5 or 6 to my collection for not a lot of money. But have now decided to start collecting Headington programmes. I know I'm going to regret it but I love collecting programmes.

I have been slowly collecting 62/3 Oxford United first league season and recently added a few more for sensible money on Ebay. It was the first time I had noted such keen interest in these. For instance, different colours - Crewe 15/5 Red £1 Beige £7 Pink £34!
Headington seem in another sphere again. Reserves - Combined Services 4/5/55 £137, Chelsea 'A' single sheet SOF 24/10/59 £160.
A few keen collectors with deep pockets will run each other up, great for sellers!

There is 4 different colour covers for that crewe game as well. I've only decided on collecting headington programmes since those ones finished.

Oxford as part of a 12th man fund have a guy who has a load of peoples unwanted programmes so if your after any I could give you his contact details and he may be able to help fill some gaps

Is the winner genuine? Strange max bid of £199.99. Normally when I see a bid like that I think shill bidding.

Having lost a programme by 50p many many years ago on a blind offer I always bid just above an amount eg if my max is £100 I would bid £100.21 or even £101.21.

An even figure I can understand eg £100 or £2.00 or £200. I always bid a little more.

However if you want an item £199.99 is a terrible bid. However if you want to push a price up and there is a bidder at say £180 it is a good bet their maximum is £200+ so £199.99 tests the maximum.

I also always bid late for this reason.
