This was mentioned a while ago when discussing the 1968 European Cup Final replay at Arsenal that would have taken place had there not been any result on that night.
I have added onto my flickr site today a few more items relating to the 1957 FA Cup Final and in particular an image of the front cover that the printer was working on at that time but also a letter to Everton from MUFC regarding the actual Cup Final Tickets-see some of the dates, very close to the bone and in those days there was little in the way of communications, would not be tight to arrange it today given all the hi tech and media but not then for sure.

we steal and con them out of unsuspecting folk or pay nothing for them.
well i do, cant speak for treble, u once work in a paint factory? hahaha happy NEW YEAR, well you should know Holtie as i have spent a few pence with you over the years. Loads of people just ring us both up and say we will just pop round and you can have this bag of old Newton Heath or pre-WW1 United tat, just give us the price of the bus fare home-yea happens all the time.
No offence taken-its a fair cop guvnor, maybe treble has a different slant on it also?, i cannot speak for him but all my stuff cost next to nothing.
I will be exhibiting some Manchester City items on the forum later as i think their collectors and all in general may find them of some interest even though they are from the 1930's and not in vogue with the Champions elect-just popping out to some old folks home to get some United homes from 1902-3 done a deal for a sliced loaf and a bottle milk the lot-think i may have over done it, but what the hell it was Christmas |

i personally collected a number of ways.
it started the old fashioned way with programme fairs when they were totally different to the way they are now.
about 30 years there was no ebay and no auction houses so the way to sell was at fairs.
i got a couple of lucky touches when i was given a tea chest of stuff that included the Sarajevo v Manchester United.
i also bought a major collection early on in my collecting when an old guy who had a tool shop near United's football ground decided to retire and cash in the programmes he had collected over the years.
i bought some gems in that lot.
i started in ephemera with one of the earliest auctions in Kensington where i purchased the Newton Heath Bazaar programme which was later followed by the auction of a large private Manchester United programme collector at Bonhams when they were based in Honiton
There have been a few other major auctions of Manchester United collections where i have picked up a large amount on the day and then afterwards as people have sold up what they originally bought i have been offered theses items quietly as well.
i have found if you have a good reputation for fair dealing people approach you to see if you have an interest before making final decisions as to whether to sell or not
there was one of the largest Manchester United collectors who decided to sell his entire collection about 5 years ago and i was given the opportunity to buy the entire collection which i took.
by merging this collection with my own significant collection and checking my collection to the records that were available to me on other significant collections of the past i can categorically state that i own the largest private Manchester United collection.
everything you see on my flickr page is in my own collection.
only a fraction loaded(bloody scanner broken again) but a lot more pricesless gems to come including the championship medal of the youngest player to ever play for Manchester United.
also a youth cup medal of the famous class of 92
i now collect by a combination of auctions, ebay and also i get introductions from people i have helped over the years such as auction houses when they have a client who can't wait and the Manchester United museum.
i have a policy which says "this is a hobby""help people and be fair and you will get your rewards"
ps i will shortly be posting the rest of the 1957 cup final replay at Goodison as it clearly has attracted interest
it didn't make it to the finished printed article but it was proofed and prepared just in case.it now sits proudly in my collection.as far as i am aware i own the only one in existence
as always i stand to be corrected

the worlds largest private Manchester United collection coming to a computer near you
updates most days(when the bloody scanner works) |
