I have recently acquired what I am reliably informed (by the Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield) is a sandwich box probably made of Britannia metal.

It looks like it belonged to George Wall, (Manchester united's first great left winger!) to commemorate United either reaching the final or winning it but I would welcome any further information from members of the forum.

The United museum say they haven't come across one and I'm still waiting to hear back from the National Football museum.

Some images are attached:

I doubt the engraving is of its time .. looks a rather modern font compared to engraving preferences from that era. I'm sure i saw something lastweek, again using the same font on something connected to Everton. The metal items are genuine period pieces but the engraving?
Also wasn't the competition known as the "English Cup " in 1909?

I would say "FA Cup" sounds too "casual" for that era - surely Football Association Challenge Cup" would have been more likely

Doesn't seem legit to me either, but Leslie Millman is the person to confirm or deny!

The terminology used was "English Cup" until at least World War One, and even after WW1 it was convoluted terminology such as "The Football Association Challenge Cup" rather than the snappy "FA Cup" of modern usage.
