Hi,

Hopefully, I have posted this in the right place.

My grandad, unfortunately, passed away earlier this year, he was in his 90's so had a good long life.
He has left me a small collection of programmes from when he was a teenager and he used to go to watch Leeds United at Elland Road.

I don't have any interest in them, especially as they are Leeds programmes and I support Sheffield Wednesday so thought I would sell them.

There are not many so can't imagine they would be worth a lot if anything. There are only 23 of them from 1934 to 1938 all at Leeds.
They look complete but some are a little old looking and have writing in the middle pages - the writing looks like line-up information but not sure.

I see people sell programmes on here. Can I do that? Would people be interested or shall I just throw them away.

Thank you

Jacob.

Definitely don't throw them away buddy, they're pre war and hugely collectible!

The chaps on here will be able to advise you, and may even be interested in giving you a decent price.

Sorry to hear about your granddad mate.

Hello Jacob,

Very sorry to hear about your Grandad passing away.

Your programmes will be worth a fortune so don't discard them! Unfortunately I'm not able to make any offer myself but suffice to say if they are complete they are very rare and extremely desirable. Other members on here will know far more than me but you would perhaps be best advised to gain advice from a specialist auction house, I highly recommend Chris at Sportingold although others are of course available.

Depending on condition Leeds homes from the 1930's are likely to make a minimum of £250/300 each at auction.

Good luck and tread carefully.

Pre war Leeds United do not often come up in auction, so as has already has been said they may be worth three figures each. It would depend on condition, opponents (most important) and whether first or reserves.

If in doubt then I would contact Chris Williams at Sportingold.

Your granddad has left you a nice legacy. Sometimes your boat does come in.

Thanks for all the replies.

I cannot believe they are worth so much. I will try and get back to everyone in due course.

I am off to work now so won't be able to reply tonight.

Jacob.

Just to add further weight, Leeds pre-war are worth a bleeding fortune compared to a lot of clubs, if you choose to, auction them with Sportingold, very fair auction company, maybe split them over a few auctions as the main people interested in bidding might like to spread their spending splurge over a few months and then they could bid higher for them

Don't be tempted by offers sent by private message!

When my Grandad died in 1973, having seen every Palace home match at Selhurst Park from 1924 to 1967, and plenty of local aways, plus lots of games at the Nest and Herne Hill, plus Croydon Common at the Nest, what did he leave me? Diddly squat. All his spare money went on admission and tobacco.

But he did have some nice stories and the games we went to together I shall treasure those memories for ever.

Beeston Boy - as my mate Dorking says, be very careful about messages via PM.

Hi,
Leeds pre war could be worth £500/£700 each.
Please call me on 0121 684 8282 and I could arrange a visit and a valuation on the collection.

Dear Jacob,
I am Chris Williams owner of Sportingold Ltd. We would be pleased to help you with the Leeds programmes and thank you to all the people who have recommended us to you.
We hold eight auctions per annum and whilst people can and do attend , they are also broadcast worldwide over the Internet and there are several Leeds collectors overseas who bid via the Internet.
The collection is likely to be valuable, as to how valuable depends very much upon condition and also upon who the opposing team is. We protect each Lot with a reserve price ( ie minimum price) and this would be agreed with yourself in each case. Depending upon the opposition and condition, likely prices would be at least £350 each if average opposition in collecting terms but quite frankly they are likely to sell for far more than this and could reach four figures in some cases. What we do not do is make promises that we cannot deliver on and hence our estimates tend to be conservative, however the actual results achieved are often far in excess of the estimates.
I would be happy to visit you, discuss the process and decide with you the best way to approach the sale of the programmes, ie how many auctions to spread it over which as we have one every six weeks is not really a problem although, as Leeds are a well collected club, the market is likely to be strong enough to enter most, if not all, of them in one auction.
Please contact me at your convenience, our officer number is 01494 565921 and my mobile is 07785 290358 and it would be good to talk to you. Our website is www.sportingoldauctions.co.uk Best regards Chris Williams, Sportingold Ltd.

Some very good advice above Jacob.

I'm sure that most of us have dealt with all of the people mentioned above - I certainly have and have never had a problem.

The choice is yours - they will sell very well and I wish you luck.

As Holtie mentioned, it would be nice to see some pics if you have time to upload them.

Hi,

I am new to the world of football programmes and forums in general, but must apologise if I have broken the rules?
I didn't realise there was a time limit on when I had to reply, my apologies as I previously said I am new to all this.

I assume you're in charge Tynie Topics? Please accept my humble apologies. If there is a set of guidelines I should follow then please let me know and I will try and take time to read them.

I will try and reply quicker in the future, although this time of year is extremely busy for me as I work in the restaurant trade.

Once again Sorry

Crying or Very sad

Jacob.
