In the 90s Russia was one big Chicago of the times of the "dry law".
Everyone survived as best he could, and former captain of the USSR national team Igor Kuperman was a member of a bandit group.
In 94 he was shot.
In the year 95 a tournament for his memory was held, Siberian rugby teams took part in the tournament.

This photo "Krasny Yar" in 1987.The top row the penultimate Igor Kuperman, to his left is the current Russian national team coach Alexander Pervukhin.

The tournament is held now it involves the children's rugby teams of Siberia.

It is clear that in this situation, Russia again did not participate in the World Rugby Championship.

Our rivals instead of South Africa and New Zealand was the Dutch team ...

In the midnineties in Russia, the rugby federation produced programs for Russias national team matches, and for the Russian championship matches the programs were printed only in Krasnoyarsk.

I'm trying to find information about the penetration of rugby into Russia but this information is not so much.

One of the founders of the Russian Football League Georgiy Duperron in his book published in 1909 "Football and other games of the same type" mentioned rugby.

.

In addition i have this article from the magazine in 1911 and this postcard.

Thats all for now ..

A dozen books about rugby were published in the USSR first of which was in 1935.

From 1976 to 82 published rugby yearbook.

Recently two excellent studies on the history of rugby in Russia and Ukraine have been published.

In January 1998 a tournament in memory of Igor Kuperman was written in the magazine "World Rugby"!

The tournament was attended by teams from Poland, Ukraine, Russia and Siberia.
The national team of Siberia won.

This is the program of the tournament .

By the end of the 1990s the fall of rugby in Russia had reached the bottom. Having started the qualifying tournament for the World Cup 1999 with a defeat from Croatia and later lost to Italy and Georgia defeating Spain and Denmark.

This is a program of matches against Italy and Denmark.

The World Cup is again without us.

In 98 program rugby matches have begun to produce in Penza (Rugby club "Penza").

And the next year in Krasnoyarsk club arrived from France "Stade France" ( without 8 players French national team) .
"Enisei" won 22 - 7.

Now our clubs play in the Challeng Cap and we personally see clubs from the best European rugby championships but then it was an event for the rugby community!

At the turn of the century, nothing unusual happened.
We do not try the World Cup and took part in the European Championship.
Next will be much more interesting ...

Russia - Ukraine.

Russia - Croatia. The match did not take place, but the program was printed.

I think very few people know about the existence of the "Baltic Cup" in rugby.
But this tournament is held for 20 years!
Teams from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Estonia and Russia participate.

"Slava" (Russia) - 2000, 2001, 2007, 2008, 2010
"Baltrex" (Lithuania) - 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015
"Vairas" (Lithuania) - 1998, 2009, 2013
"Miesnieki" (Latvia) - 1999, 2002, 2004
Folc-Azs (Poland) - 2005, 2006
"Adazu chips" (Latvia) - 2003

This is the medal winner of the tournament in 2008 .

And this is the program of matches from Lithuania.

"Ozolas"Lithuania - "Slava" (Russia)

"Ozolas"Lithuania - "Miesnieki" (Latvia)

Now Russia in the tournament is represented by an amateur team from Kaliningrad.
