Anyone out there confirm when Goal Difference replaced Goal Average to split team when they were level on points.

And was this undertaken across the board at the same time i.e. were all non-league tables moved to this at the same time as the Football League tables?

I know that goal difference came into the Football League for 1975/6 season, but I'm sorry I don't know if that went right the way through the "pyramid".

1976/77 was the first Football League season that operated goal difference, non-league football was still regionalised in 1976 and the national pyramid didn't really exist until the Alliance Premier League started in 1979/80 so GD could have been adopted piecemeal by non-league football, especially as the Scottish leagues had already switched to GD in the early 70s.

EDIT - I found this site which by looking at the league tables suggests that GD was introduced to the Northern Premier League for the same season as the Football League, 76/77.
