Does anyone have any idea whether autographs in pen or pencil are more valuable or does it not make a difference, I have the below from a 1958 programme, and i guess pencils were just more common then, or would it be worth more in pen ?

I like my autographs, the main thing is their legibility. If they are clear and readable then ink or pen should not make any difference IMO. Stating the obvious pen is more permanent. Prior to biro there were fountain pens, so if you did not have one, then pencil it had to be. I have said this before but it is worth repeating that the squiggles which pass as autographs done with these black bingo markers are dire and as they are practically unreadable have no real value as far as I am concerned,

Shouldn't make any diifference at all to value and as slightfold has indicated at least with a pencil they are legible unlike most of those done today.

Given how rarely many people have to actually write anything in these digital times, it's perhaps no surprise that signatures are becoming illegible.

At work, I still do all my double-entry in pen on the back of an envelope before I go near the PC .If I didn't I could quite easily go a whole day writing nothing.

'Selfies' seem to have overtaken autographs.

Just imagine in 10 years plus time some one will be coming onto this board asking use to value their digital selfie with [insert name of footballer]

Just a moot point of interest on this subject , I suspect after a nunber of years a pencil autograph may fade ....... ????

Roughyedz,to answer you moot point, if the pencil autographs are inside the programme then they should not deteriorate nor fade over time. I would accept the premise that if they are on the cover and continually rubbed by just being in a pile which is regularly handled then there could be some wear and loss. But we are proper collectors on here, so would know about isolating and protecting our loved ones!
