Southend v qpr 1945 August 25th

I have this single sheet programme but can't find out much about it online if anything
Can anyone tell me please what was the score was it the first game after the war and is it a scarce one?

"Soccer at War" tells me that Southend & QPR played each other in the Third Division South in 1945/6, in the first half of that season, followed by the Third Division South Cup, in which QPR & Southend were both in the North Region.

But that date says it would have been the League game - sadly the results aren't in that book. And I can't see them online either.

It is a flimsy single sheet so don't imagine many would have survived.

Hi Holtie.

I believe that Southend from the war years are quite rare. John Dee had a Southend v Aldershot from 39/40 season that went for close to £200 and I had to pay a substantial 3 figure sum for Southend v Aldershot 46/47 so I guess yours has to be worth £200+. There are a couple of Southend collectors who will pay for particularly rare programmes. I think that Southend only played in the 39/40 season, they do not appear in any War League South fixtures after that date. So this could be their first issue. Apologies for any inaccuracies, perhaps a mad Southend collector has better information

Southend did play in 40/1 season but then not again till 45/6. So as Shotsman says, this could well be their first prog as Palace's first prog in that season was also 25th August.

I presume you already have info on the score by now but an excellent book for information is "A Record of Britsih Wartime Football" by Brian McColl.

This shows the result as 2-1 to QPR.
