Saw these beauties

Don't get too excited by the title but I had to share what I saw this week in Florence of all places, all 4 Italy World Cup winning trophies. Even saw one being put to bed for the night!
Sadly don't think we will see these coming England's way ever again

I was at Chelsea today (Palace actually won there for the 1st time since 1982!!!!) and in their club shop (sorry Megastore ) was a couple of cabinets of replica trophies.




The sizing of some of them was a bit wrong (maybe they weren't allowed to do full size replicas of some?) but the detail was pretty good.

The replica of the original league Championship trophy was excellent and must have cost a fortune to commission with all the detail, engraving and so on (albeit it was probably half the size of the real thing) - never seen a replica of that before

Anyway, back to the original thread. Here's Carlos Alberto with the Jules Rimet Trophy in 1970, doing his best to get off the pitch. Anyone know who his teammate is?

And for me the sad thing is that most clubs are not the slightest bit interested in having anything to do with club related memorabilia and programmes!

I believe FIFA, UEFA, the FA & the FL commission replicas when the original trophies are returned. All of them are smaller in size than the original.

Been there myself, to the Chelsea museum, to have a one to one with the War Cup. The people that run the museum are very helpful and accommodating.

Yea all very nice but where is the memorabilia and the history as can be seen at Old Trafford or the Camp Nou? Clubs should be celebrating their history not just showing off their silverware. It is a way of preserving the past, our heritage and also a way of getting young people interested in history.
Or am I just sounding like an old moaning git?

But this is especially prevalent these days with "museums" or extensive display cases at most of the top clubs. My own club is a fine example and I have also seen other good offerings at Arsenal, Man City, Newcastle, Spurs, Chelsea and Man Utd. Further afield Ajax, Barcelona and even teams like Basle are also promoting their heritage with extensive memorabilia.

Good to hear but saying that clubs are not interested if you offer them rare items, peanuts in terms of money compared to the millions they spend on players!

The Liverpool museum bid for many of Tommy Smith's items but missed out on quite a few due to their limited budget.....

I think it's Paulo Cesar, a reserve, he may have been a sub for the final, I think he played against England earlier in the cup.

I see these beauties everyday and it is nothing at all to do with spending lots of money either, a great number of the images here are collectables that cost a few pounds at best and are mixed in with those that have cost quite a lot for sure-unlike a "professional" museum where a 50p train ticket and similar items would have no place-it certainly fits in with me.

It is what you cannot see to be fair as the paper items are inside the binders with paperwork dating for 1878 the year that Newton Heath was originally formed by the Railway workers.

Recently a very serious United collector of many years standing who has items in his collection of which some I have never seen before visited me prior to the first home match of the season v Tottenham and said that "I have never been in such an atmospheric room like this before"-not bad for a converted garage that you would find tuff to get a mini in at best.

For me whatever space you can devote to your pride and joy no matter how small or how it suits you has to be good, every man[or lady] should have a hobby I think-keeps you on your toes and active whether you are 18 or 98!

Ruth Crawshaw is still collecting after all these years and Alison Ward may have left the scene a long time ago but she certainly ruffled a few feathers when she was involved!

I recently bought Harry Hampton`s 1905 F A Cup winner`s medal and on a visit to Villa Park, i found out that i had outbid the club, i am really glad that i got it, but to be honest Villa should have blown me and anyone else out of the water in trying to buy this medal and anything else relating to their incredible early history, unfortunately they only seem to be interested spending millions in trying to preseve their premier league status rather than their amazing history

In a way I'm quite happy that my club don't collect anything historic, as it gives me a good chance if I want something.

Its a shame though that this season there is almost no 'history' pages in our very thick matchday programme. Learning about my clubs history fascinated me as a youngster and the programme articles were a big part of that.
If younger fans aren't 'hooked' by being interested in their clubs history, where will the future programme and memorabilia collectors come from?
