london memorabilia shops?

Hi guys hows it going?

I would like to know if theres any shop in london who has sports memorabilia (im a ticket collector but i would be happy if i found a programme shop or anything like that) does any of you know about? i've been in london sometimes but never found it, probably no shops of this kind?

Sportspages...........but you'll need a thickly packed wallet. There's also a regular collector's fare somewhere, can't remember where, but it involves Ian Hands and is near one of the major train stations?

Didn't Sportspages close a few years ago?
I'm not aware of any shops in London other than club's own shops but I could be wrong

Yes

Used to go to London a lot to see West End Shows, went up quite early to walk around Charing Cross Road, Trafalgar Square, Oxford Street etc and always popped into Sportspages, Martin was one of the sales people and a hockey nut like myself and he always had a few hockey programmes/memorabilia tucked away for me, gave me great deals as well.

Sadly the shop closed, about 5/6 years ago now as they have gone to an online only store operating out of Farnham. They also had a store in Manchester but i assume that's all gone as well now.



In the early 90's i used to go to a lot of Spurs homes games and again i used to go up early pick the tickets up and then go down to Walthamstow to a shop run by Dave Ellis (RIP), who had a cracking shop with a whole host of sports memorabilia including LOADS of programmes, he was an Orient fan and we used to have a bit of banter about Orient and Gillingham (my local team) and i procured a vast majority of my Spurs collection from the late 60's to the mid ninties from him during those visits, a couple of times i'd be going through the bundles of Spurs programmes and he'd say to me i;m just taking the dog for a walk down the road, if anyone comes in it's all labelled up, top bloke just taken too early.


I think that with the cost of rent nowadays it's difficult for people to be able to afford a shop front to be able to deal sports memorabilia out of as the overheads just cannot be made to save you from running at a constant loss.

Why not go to London for 2nd June and go to the big Premier Programme Fair? Lots of tickets for sale as well as programmes.

There used to be a couple of stalls ever saturday morning/lunchtime at charing cross station (Martin Scott ran one stall and can't remember who did the other) but I am pretty sure that also finished a few years ago.

The only other regular place to get memorabilia is the West London fair which is about 4 or 5 times a year on a sunday morning near High Street Kensington (details are in the upcoming fairs section of the forum).

I spotted some old postings re FOOTBALL MEMORABILIA SHOPS, open to the public, as opposed to online operations.

Apologies if this is a common thread.

Could Collectors share their favourites, or have they died out?

It doesn`t have to be in London (of course!) anywhere in the UK will do!

A bit off track but just want to give a heads-up to a fellow Palace fan who's just opened a vinyl record shop (specialising in Jazz but with a very wide range) - "Turnstyle Reords" - and comes complete with an original turnstile from the old Crystal Palace football ground which he bought at auction - it's in Streatham, SW London.

Surely the days of programme shops is over. Local shops in general are pretty much a thing of the past.High rents and eBay have killed them off. It's all charity shops and mini Tesco's now.
The days of the Phil Curtis shop in Roker are only a happy memory.
You would race round on a Saturday just to see if any interesting pre war or war time would appear in his window. First come first served , all at reasonable prices.
Charity shops are always worth a look around, but like car boot sales , you'll need to visit a hell of a lot to spot something worthwhile.

There is a programme/memorabilia shop in Newcastle but sadly the prices are so silly it's not really worth a visit from me...

the only proper shop i know about is the newcastle one....great for browsing but pricey. On matchdays at arsenal there are a couple of stalls near the ground.

I noticed a shop in Boscombe when I was in the Bournmouth area last year but could not entice the Mrs to pull over so I could have a look.

Worth a browse yes, and if George is in then you're guaranteed a good chat too, but their stuff is ludicrously overpriced imho (yes, I know I'm a two bob fish & chip merchant before anyone tells me).

I popped in a few months ago looking for a copy of the last ever game at Roker. They wanted £20 for it., so I left it. I bought it elsewhere a few weeks later for £4.

George Forster is an absolute legend. Last time I saw him he said " and we're a lot cheaper than that eBay " Some of their late 40s early 50s is priced realistically in a falling market. But it's mostly run of the mill. I notice they put a price of £30 on 1946/47 homes, but have none for sale . To be fair at least they have stuff for sale that could get youngsters started in the hobby. Shops like this are where it all begins , and sadly there aren't many around...

It amuses me that everybody thinks everybody else is pricey
