When i was a young lad the first time i bought a Badge (coffer sports) outside the ground was round about 1970/71, There were always the guy`s selling Badges and Rosettes.
A serious Question, when were Badges first on sale outside grounds ?, the guy with the board full of badges, was he there in the early 60s, the fifties etc ?.

I have about 125 Scunthorpe badges. Bought most from a guy who used to sell them outside the ground. In recent season most have been purchased from the Irish Iron supporters club whose badges are top notch. The ones by the club themselves are now quite bland. Don't buy match badges unless it's for a special match, such as we're playing at Wembley or a big cup match. Won't buy run of the mill league matches.

I think sellers have always been outside grounds (depending on club success) originally selling rosettes and ribbons in team colours.

In the mid-late 50's most badges found on these boards were the plastic star variety (plus other shapes) with the players photo in the middle..... these were abit of a "back parlour operation" the bases were bought blank (no pic) and the players images were bought on sheets, where the vendor would cutout whatever the desired player of the day was and glue them to the plastic badge

Up until the late 90's production of badges were quite expensive and in Coffers case produced in vast amounts...hence you don't really get many obscure Coffer badges.

I have a few hundred Crewe badges (a very high percentage of the total ever produced). On top of this I have hundreds more from clubs visited, matches attended etc...
