Aston Villa vs Friendly 1973-4

Have a 4 page programme for the Villa vs Southampton game on Saturday March 9th. It's a friendly, I assume, as the Villa Complete Record shows the game was on blank Saturday for Villa.

Someone's written the match details on the back, which show Villa won 3-0 and the attendance was 3,881.

March 9th was FAC 1/4 Final day, so had the game originally been scheduled against one of those playing the Cup that day?

Programme has a photo of Mike Channon for the front cover, but no match details there, or indeed anywhere in the programme.

Anyone shed any light on it please?

the FA Cup Quarter Finals for 1973/74 season were :-

Bristol City v Liverpool

Burnley v Wrexham

Newcastle United v Nottingham Forest

Queens Park Rangers v Leicester City

All played on the 9th March 1974.

So, did Aston Villa have a re-arranged league fixture against any of these teams after 9th March ?

Villa v Forest was played on Wed 24 April, so probably that one. Southampton played Leicester on 18 March, and Burnley on 22 April.

Thanks for the info folks. I knew the programme unlikely to be worth anything given it was mid 1970's, just interested as to why there were no match details on it. Nice to see the wealth of experience out there.
