I know this was discussed a couple of months ago but has anyone any recent experience of using this service - positive and negative?

They keep dropping the hint that I should use it but I want to be sure that the teething problems have been resolved.

I've been involved with GSP 3 times since it started and I feel the biggest "bugbear" is the lack of acknowledgement. I've had feedback from the first two (eventually) . The third, posted 13th Jan to shipping centre, heard nowt yet and I've no idea where it's destined for. Confused
I presume like kenners, no news is good news and if it had not arrived at the shipping centre I'm sure I would have been informed before now,
I also presume it's somewhere between the shipping centre and wherever it's going to. In which case its out of my hands having fullfilled my part of the bargain so appart from it not being "as described" I think all responsibility lies with eBay.
By the way I never signed up for anything I was just "chucked in at the deep end" when someone in Italy bought my stuff Shocked Shocked
Just a quick "Item recieved" from eBay or the shipping centre would be nice, I'm not holding my breath.

Looking at some of the comments on Ebay forums makes me glad that I haven't signed up for this yet or been co-opted onto it.

I sold a few items back in November (I haven't sold anything through them for some time) and suddenly I was co-opted into this scheme (perhaps they thought I'd suddenly sell loads of stuff).
Anyway, I waited until I got that chance and I've opted out - still awaiting the confirmation that I am no longer involved so that I can put a few more items up.

I woke up this morning to find out that I have an order from Ebay, through their Global Shipping Programme.

The order seems alright on the face of it, and the item was securely packaged and posted at lunchtime today - to the UK shipping address (a centre in Derbyshire). Post Office receipts and proof of posting obtained.

MATT RUSH - I have found out that by clicking on the Ebay order details, it shows the customer name and customer reference number, but there is also "additional buyer information", at the bottom of the page which, when clicked on, reveals the customer's actual address - (USA in this particular case).
So you may be able to find out where your customer originates from by doing this ?

I have sent a detailed message to the customer explaining that this order falls within "Ebay's Global Shipping Programme guidelines".

Lets hope this goes through ok, but I would value your recent experiences of EGSP.

Does anyone know how much it costs the buyer for postage via this method?

I sold some single sheet programmes to Australia so it was still under 100g. I was unable to send an invoice to the buyer and the buyer was unable to pay until Ebay's Global Shipping sorted it our. i think postage would have been about £4 if I'd sent it but I think they had to pay £20.

To give you an example of what I am seeing from this side of the Irish sea,
sellers who would have normally charged from £2.50 to £4 depending now have GSP charges of £9 upwards which is outrageous and leads to me ignoring programmes I'd love to buy...I buy fairly regularly from Bazzas eBay shop and Smithysprogrammes and even BF&E who never charge rip off prices for postage...I know the seller isn't making the money but it puts buyers like me off......

I opted out of their GSP facility as it was a disaster for me. I felt co-erced into it in the first place and, what a surprise, two of the five items I sent to their Derbyshire centre were never received by the buyer. End result - I ended up £70 out of pocket. Call me sceptical but I am pretty sure these items were delivered and the buyers are trying it on as the vendor has seemingly no record of what happens to the item once it leaves Derbyshire. I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with ebay which appears to be heavily loaded towards the buyer - BUT it is still the best outlet on the web for reaching a mass audience. Damned if you do, damned if you don't...

Thanks for info sellsell, I've tried that and sure enough its gone to USA
it was an Old Moore's Almanack sold for 99p with postage at £1.75
Buyer has been charged an additional £12.46 for postage to Corbett, Oregon, USA Shocked Shocked Shocked . Thats absolute unjustified robbery. I'm certainly going to have a look at pulling out. While the concept overall is a good idea I certainly don't sell stuff to line ebay's pockets, robbin b@$tard$, I could have sent it for about 4 quid.

As a buyer the GSP has put me off buying items from outside the EU. Have seen ludicrous Ebay shipping prices quoted in Canada and the USA.... 20 US dollars to send thin pieces of paper that probably cost no more $5 max to send.

Yet another of Ebay's schemes to fleece more money from the unsuspecting.

The idea originally looked good in theory but if these postage costs are replicated across the board there is something seriously wrong here.

its just another way to rip off the buyer with high postage costs and from USA you also get hit with export charges. Stopped me buying from the U.S. now
