Structured training vs. random puzzles – my experience

For a long time, I was stuck in the habit of grinding puzzles and playing blitz, but it didn’t really translate to better tournament results. A friend of mine suggested trying lessons with a grandmaster chess coach, and I was hesitant at first — I thought it might be too advanced or formal. But actually, it was the opposite.

The structure he provided made a huge difference. Each session was built around a clear theme (like pawn breaks or dynamic piece activity), and between lessons, I had targeted tasks — not just random tactics. The guidance helped me break old habits and start thinking more strategically.
