Gents

I've put the Forest memorabilia-based 'how they got on' book onto my Xmas list, but it's also set me wondering how many other clubs have been the subject of similar publications.

I've got the fantastic 'Dr Everton's Magnificent Obsession' book (truly jaw-dropping) and 'The Relics of the Rams' which features Derby items, but maybe there are a few more out there of a similar nature.

I'd be obliged if anyone could give me any info on other books.

Thanks in advance for any guidance on this

Paul

Hi, nothing to add to this I'm afraid, but can you tell me what it is that is jaw dropping about the Everton book, I'm truly intrigued. Cheers.

hi Pablo76

Not sure if you've seen the book, but it's about the pursuit of Everton memorabilia by a guy called called David France. His collection has been central to the creation of the 'Everton Collection' which I believe is a trust set up to keep the collection and other Everton artifacts intact and together for posterity etc.

The book features programmes, badges, shirts, tickets, record books, letters, player registration documents etc etc from one of the founder members of the league from the club's founding days through to the 2000s. It also contains tales about how some of the rarer items were tracked down and secured.

I've no affiliation to Everton, but superlatives don't do justice to the range of memorabilia contained in the book. Maybe I need to get out more! I'm sure the Everton collectors in this forum will have seen it and would vouch for it.

If anyone has an appreciation of football memorabila generally - which I guess we all have on this forum - then I would recommend it.

The Derby book is also worth a look - also league founder members I think.

Are there any more books like these two out there - and has anyone already got a copy of the Forest one?

RE 'Dr Everton's Magnificent Obsession' book

MINSTERMAN - Thanks for mentioning the above book. I am not an Everton fan but love reading interesting Soccer books. This looks like a good read. Just picked up a copy for £9.99 post free which looks like a good buy.

There is (yet another) Manchester United book just out called the Official Encyclopdia of Manchester United.
It is published by Simon and Schuster.
I think it £25 in shops but you can get it on the internet for about £14/£15.
It breaks down into season by season statistics(results finishing position etc) back to day one of the club
Then player by player (stats, appearances etc)
Then manager by manager
Then trophy by trophy

Lots of illustrations.
I gave them a free hand into my collection and as a result some never before seen items have come out of the binders

To be fair all/most of these items are being loaded onto my flickr page.
I've had a little computer trouble so progress has been slow.
i think i am now sorted.
Over the last couple of days i have loaded some pre first world war programmes of North East Clubs v Manchester United which are possibly the only ones in existence.
I have another 600 or so pre war programmes to load up so if you have a club preference let me know and i will do my best to oblige.

Martino - if you've ordered the Everton book then please let me know what you think of it - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. The book can usually be picked up for a tenner.

Treble99 - thanks for the tip off about the United book, I'll check this out.
I have the United club encylopedia from early 2000 which also has a few interesting bits of memorabila in.

You and Leslie M need to get together and launch a book as I've seen the remarkable range of stuff you both have on flickr. You could bring something out annually between you!

I guess I'm really looking for books where the memorabila is central to the book, and is used to describe the history.

thanks for the feedback - much appreciated

The Everton book is a great read (as is Toffee Pages by the good doctor) - with tremendous detail.

Fantastic book just out called "Got, not got" - it covers collectable memorabila mainly from the 1960's and 70's.

Done in a humerous style, it's essentially a chance to wallow in nostalgia of things like Esso World Cup coins, Panini stickers, newspaper-style programmes etc.

Google "Got, Not Got" - pretty sure they've got a facebook page, and you can get it via Amazon for about £13

Just to back up Dorking's last post - ' Got, Not Got' is a gold-mine of memories and memorabilia, when muddy pitches and parkas were commonplace, and Hew Johns thought every shot was a stunning drive.

Almost every form of collectable that made us the cleptomaniacs we are today is featured. Any book that recalls player portriats on Hartley's jam jar lids has clearly done it's homework !!

It's another must have, especially if you're forty-something like me!
