More a programme ‘bourse’ in comparison to the 22 dealers at the Greater Manchester fair the following day but this event held at the Royal Victoria Station hotel, Sheffield still offers a great day out and an escape from all the Christmas ‘palava’ for all of us interested in football programmes and memorabilia.

The seven exhibiting dealers are:

Denis Clarebrough – Highly respected Sheffield United historian and contributor to their current programme. Denis has been involved in football memorabilia for many years and will have 1,000s of programmes plus other related Sheffield United curios available for sale on his stand.

Mick Brodie – Former proprietor of the programme shop on Leppings Lane, Wednesday fanatic Mick still retains a comprehensive stock of the clubs programmes from pre-war right up to current season issues.

Mick Hewitt – Undeniably Yorkshire’s largest dealer. Mick makes no secret of his Leeds United allegiance but his professionalism and full- time standing within the business ensures he will offer a huge selection of programmes from ALL the Counties clubs.

footballprogrammes.com – represented by fair co-organisers Elaine and David Allen. Over 1,000 excellent condition 1960s programmes available at £2 each, over 500 European Competition programmes same condition, same price. Books, magazines, badges, bargain bundles, Non League PLUS a fine range of vintage programmes, comprehensive current season, firsts & lasts etc… Something for everyone at this stand!

Colin Boulter – East Midlands based Colin has been involved in football programmes for well over 40 years now. Great stock boxes of all the local clubs and bargain bundles a particular strength. Has not missed the post Christmas Sheffield fair at the Royal Vic for well over 25 years!

Barry Swash – West Midlands based Barry aka Bazzabaggies on the forum offers a wide array of vintage programmes and memorabilia from pre war to the 1960’s.

PM Publications – Former Programme Monthly editor and co-organiser of this event John Litster offers his vast array of PM back issues plus the recent editions from the new publishers too. Stockist of bespoke programme binders, football history books and a selection of programmes from his huge archive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An attendance of around 150 is commonplace during the 3 hours the event is open and a comfortable bar area is at everyone’s disposal for a drink / sit down / chat at what can be a frenetic fair, particularly during the first hour! As admission is FREE you can bob in and out of the room as often as you like.

A previous thread some months ago brought to light some dissatisfaction with the size of the room and capacity/variety of dealers. These issues will no doubt be dealt with when SurfinJim and Auckinleckian announce details of their proposed additional fair for the great City of Sheffield.

I look forward to working alongside another fair in a different location with different dealers at a different time of year keeping everybody happy. The area is a hotbed of programme collectors and I have always had a significantly high number of customers on my books in the South Yorkshire and surrounding areas. I am sure Sheffield will support two fairs just as it does two football clubs. Given John’s longstanding presence in the hobby and Jim’s local knowledge I doubt they will need it but my phone/email will always be open for any advice/guidance with their event, particularly in dealing with the Sheffield Council’s markets Department!

The Christmas Sheffield fair will remain at The Royal Victoria Hotel indefinitely - its established location of over 25 years standing and we look forward to welcoming everybody to the Royal Vic on Thursday 29th December. In the meantime may I wish a merry Christmas to everyone!

I'm working on the 30th which is a shame as I was hoping to get to the Manchester Fair as its only about 40 mins from home.

Instead might try and venture over the Pennines and get to the Sheffield Fair! Very Happy

Fine, parking on the left hand side on the approach to the Hotel, large car park at the top, plenty of spaces.

1st time in 5 years I've not been, the weather over here was lousy, I've spent the last 3 days decorating and to be honest I'm a bit skint......also I've not bought anything the last couple of years as its become a bit 'parochial'......I'm sure Chris Williams used to attend with folders of non league stuff, it was him or some other dealer and they've not been there for a couple of years and as a result there's been nothing much to interest me.

Was it any good? Did I miss much?

Well I went to the Sheffield fair for the first time today.

After reading some of the negative comments on here, I was actually pleasantly surprised.

Was nice to be able to pop in and out and had a nice drink in the bar.

Managed to fill a few gaps and also had a chat with a couple of the dealers so all in all was a good fair I thought Thumbs Up

First half hour seemed quiet, maybe the weather put a few off, but around 11.30 the room seemed to fill up very quickly.

Denis Clarebrough and Mick Hewitt seemed to have the bulk of the customers while I was there.
