Newcastle Utd need a reality check.

They think they are a big club. Why? What do they have to back it up?

There history is shit. I'm sorry to put it in those terms but it really is. Okay they finished Runners Up in the Premiership in 95/96 + 96/97 but 1st is 1st and 2nd is nowhere. Before that? They last won the league 82 years ago! They last won the FA Cup in 1955 and the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1969. Thats all folks.

They supposedly have the best fanbase. Very very loyal. You sure? What happened throughout the whole 1980's up until their promotion in 1993? The average attendance throught that whole time was just on 20,000!

I for one am very glad they are down!

That's exactly why I am glad they are down.
In the early nineties (I think) we played them at Twerton Park. Toon and Rovers were fighting relegation from the 2nd tier at the time. Twerton had a tiny away end that only held 900ish and the so called wonderfull Newcastle fans didn't even fill that. Great fans, my arse. Later on that season we took 3,000 up there and we were the ones that eventualy went down.
Hope they stay down and drop even further in the future. Bet their great fans soon give up on them in L1.

The only bad thing is that their fans will be praised so much next season when they set all sorts of Championship attendance records!

Now now lads, you shouldn't mock the afflicted!

In all seriousness, it's interesting that fans from so many other clubs are happy to see the mags relegated. For a long time now I've wondered if I was just seeing things through my red and white eyes, but the way the media are so far up newcastle's arse is a joke. Their fans' belief that they deserve to be in the premiership because they had 2 good seasons years back and that they can pull in 50k attendances is unreal. I partly blame Sky to be honest, but I wonder how many younger supporters remember newcastle before 1992'ish, before it became fashionable to support them.

Needless to say, even though we haven't exactly set the world alight ourselves, it's a good time to be a SAFC supporter.

Was talking (well chirping) at a newcastle fan the other day and said to him that i felt Newcastle fans were the most fickle in the league, he said that they were the best fans in the league, i said ok they turn out in there droves to support their team but most leave with 10 mins to go, he said the reason for this is that the stadium is in the town centre and the traffic is bad, arrrr boo hoo, London teams have this problem, and their fans stay until the end. If you want to call yourself a big club then it's about more than having a big fan base, it's about what you do on the pitch.

He then started saying we're a big club, i said no there are only 4 teams who can be classed as big clubs , Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal, the teams that are nearing that status are Aston Villa, Everton and Spurs, but until they start wining things on a regular basis they will always be the top clubs of the also rans.

Everyone is glad Newcastle went down for one reason, ARROGANCE, from the fans to the chairman and throughout the club, they think they are better than what they are, you look at their entire squad, with the exception of Harper, Steven Taylor and Jonas Gutierriez, the rest of them I don't rate at all, Owen is to injury proned for another premiership team to take a chance on, the majority of the rest are just pathetic excuses for footballers, Joey Barton to name one.

All clubs have made transfer mistakes, but that is like 10/15 since the premiership began, yet Newcastle seem to make mistakes with 90% of their signings. Every player/Manager is worshipped with godlike adulation, which is baffling....
