Clwyd League v Ireland 1977

I have an interesting programme in my collection from a Clwyd League v Republic of Ireland Football Association match played at Rhyl in north Wales in 1977. Formed just two years previously, this was the Clwyd League’s first representative match.

The programme itself has eight pages consisting of the cover page, four pages of ads, one page with welcomes from the president of the league and the chairman of Rhyl FC, a one-page article titled Clywd League – So Far So Soon and the back cover which lists the 15-man Clwyd League squad (drawn from Flint Town United, Pilkingtons, Courtaulds and Connah’s Quay Nomads). Intriguingly the Republic of Ireland FA line-up is blank with just a note ‘Details to be announced’ and there is nothing to suggest what type of team might have represented Ireland in the game. Indeed it’s not entirely clear who the Republic of Ireland Football Association might be!

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what kind of Irish side might have been represented
