Post subject: Regular Football Card for Cancer Research

Hi All.
Had a chat with Craig about this earlier and he's agreed to it, so just interested in everyone's thoughts. As most of you will know, my other half's mum died very unexpectedly of cancer in May, and since then we have been raising money for Cancer Research UK. I've employed all kinds of tactics to raise as much money as possibe, including donating a percentage of my programme sales on Ebay.

One other idea I had was to do a football card on the forum, perhaps every 2 months, and donate the proceeds of those. I have two types of card, 1 I think has either25 or 40 teams on, and the other has 80. Payment could be sent as a gift via Paypal, and winnings could be sent by cheque or Paypal.

So, I just wondered, would forum members be interested in having a go on a football card at £1 a time? How often do you think I should do it, once a month, twice a month? Can you think of any other good, easy to manage fundraising ideas? I'd be really interested to hear members thoughts, and looking forward to your ideas, and Mr. Gas I am not doing a sponsored knicker sniffing, but please feel free to do it yourself! Thumbs Up

As somebody who lost their mum three years ago to cancer and an Uncle last year, and who runs a golf society who donate the proceeds from one of their golf days every year in memory of one of our founding members who was 47, to the Weston Park Cancer Hospital in Sheffield, then I wish you all the best Mick, an online card would be good, count me in for a most worthy cause.

Thank you. Thumbs Up It's amazing that the more you talk about this, the more people tell you that they have been affected by cancer. I have always donated regularly to charities that I felt were deserving, but since this happened, it made me realise that charity really does begin at home. Cancer Research Uk have done some great work in finding a cure, but the doctors had never seen the type of cancer my mother in law had, making it untreatable, and thus terminal. This made us all realise that there is still so much to do, and we all decided that we didnt want her to death to be for nothing. So, we decided to continue to raise as much money for Cancer Research as we could, to minimise the chances of this happening to anybody else.

Count Dracula me in Mick.

Knicker sniffin is a private venture really, where it usually occurs in your Home, either using your partners, ones you have bought or ones you have stolen from your neighbours washing line.

I have progressed to Saddle-sniffing and having lived in Holland and now Cambridge, i am surrounded with opportunities.
I prefer, busy built-up areas, in day light. Bending over a bicycle and sniffing the saddle, while gently rubbing my sprouts, is wonderful xxx

I'll do it Mick, nae problem.

Mister Gas, I think you need to take yourself in hand young man! When I saw you were into saddle sniffing I had an immediate vision of you going to the match, escorted by mounted police, and then running up to some unsuspecting WPC on horseback and doing something dastardly with your nose. I'm not a million miles away, I bet.....

John....... And cannot confirm or deny the above, as fear of Animal Rights reprisals. Saddle sniffings one thing but putting my nose up Pigs bottoms is quite different Laughing

Good luck with it Mick and count me in.

Haven`t mentioned it before but my 2 year old daughter is battling/fighting the big C over the last year (worst nightmare of our lives), so any monies to Cancer research I`ll definately support.

Good luck and keep fighting. The most terrible thing that I have noticed through all this is that cancer does not discriminate. I have seen little children like your daughter, and big strapping blokes, all being affected. I used to think that cancer only affected the elderly, or those that didn't look after themselves. It's taken the death of a 35 year old mate that used to play semi pro football, and my 54 year old mother in law, as well as all the people I've met over the last couple of years that have been affected by it, to dispel that myth.

Ok, I have the card now, and am going to set up a thread that Craig is going to turn into a sticky.
I have 80 teams, at £1 a go, and the winner will receive £20, meaning that £60 will go to Cancer Research. Next month I will do a card with 40 teams on, meaning that the winner will get £10, and £30 will go to Cancer Research

I am going to be taking part too, but will only pick the last team that nobody else wants, just so that everybody knows that it's not a fix if I win!!

I'll post my Paypal email address on the thread, so that payment can be made. Receipt of funds in the Paypal account will guarantee the team of your choice, if you don't have Paypal, PM me and we will make other arrangements, like paying by cheque etc. Any other problems, just message me.

A tremendously brave 19year old Grimsby Town fan died early yesterday after a very courageous 3 year battle against a very aggressive and little known cancer that only affects about young people each year. Mariner Matt's tale can be read on the Fishy Forum where he's been posting about his illness and watching the Town for quite some time.
Had a tear in my eye last night reading the last posting. Heart goes out to anybody faced with such an illness in their children, must be absolutely soul destroying.

Not religious myself John, and would never criticise anyone for their beliefs, but if anybody is up there looking down on us, I fail to see how murderers and rapists walk around unaffected, yet awful illnesses like this are inflicted on people, especially kids.

I think the same when I look around at some of the spongers and scroungers and feral types out there and then wonder why he took my missus at 39......I think I'll console myself with the old adage about taking the best first.

I have to be honest and say I do only give to The British Heart Foundation but good luck with this.

Couldnt agree more Andy.

I totally understand, as I lost my grandad to a heart attack, as did my other half, and when tragedy strikes, it makes you re-assess your priorities. As I mentioned previously, I used to donate regularly to many charities, now Cancer Research UK is the only one that I work to riase funds for.

Chaps refer to my recent ebay listing. Who knows there may be something of interest. As stated all the proceeds will go Cancer Research as part of this sites initiative
