Just had a quick squint at their list of over 1000 items. Lots of pre-war but these 2 Man Utd homes caught my eye. Everton postponed friendly Lot 273 19/2/55 estimate £2500-3000, and then Lot 356 Wolves postponed 8/2/58 estimate £5-7000 !!! Who has got this sort of money, must be Premiership footballers I guess.

will certainly be interesting to see what is the highest bid.......in general sporting memorys estimate are not bad but they have had some arsenal prewars in the past that were set at double their realistic value ......and obviously not sold

it amazes me the continual amount of talking down from the "not worth much mate" brigade when somebody else with knowledge is selling something.
whether it is an established collector or a professional auction house it is always the same attitude.
"that will never sell""far too expensive"
at the end of the auction it is always the same
the auctioneer always claim to have had a great auction and everybody else claims it fell on its arse
the bottom line is that the truth is somewhere in the middle

as soon as a newby appears on this site asking an honest question about the value of some programmes a relative gave him the words "pm sent" light up the site
i usually presume nobody is giving him any advice to his benefit but are in fact seeing if they can quickly relieve him of these programmes at a price that shall we say is significantly more beneficial to them.

anyway before i go off at too much of a tangent i wll stick my neck out and say i believe the Manchester United v Wolves and V Everton will sell
i think they are in the right ballpark

When I posted the original comment regarding the high estimate for the Man Utds it was only to make the point that, that kind of money is outside mine and most collectors' range. What anyone will pay for any programme is governed by the depth of pocket and the strength of desire to add it to their collection. We are all probably guilty of paying a bit over the odds for an item particularly if it completes a season or a set. It is usually when there are a few seriously rich collectors after the same item that it goes ballistic, but then we can all suck some air in through our teeth and say "How much!! "

i completely understand your comments and they are quite correct.
this hobby is made up of many people from many financial backgrounds collecting totally different syles and standards
some collect modern programmes and some collect back to their first game
it is not uncommon to collect back to the season you were born
some only collect homes and some only collect reserves
we are all different and that what makes it such a widespread hobby
some collect as a financial investment as well as getting the pleasure of colecting
i think it is better to collect something you can afford with your spare cash and enjoy it than put it in the bank or pension plan where some tosser in a suit tells you 30 years down the line your investment is"not worth much mate"
it is the comment from silkman that said"nobody has that kind of money" "totally unrealistic prices" that is incorrect
if he had said i can't afford it or indeed i could afford it but i personally won't pay that much then he would have had a valid opinion which i could have respected
everybody and i mean everybody has a limit
it is different with everybody for a lot of different reasons whether or not they are the buyer or even a bidder
