Don't know if this has been covered before on here - probably has - but am I alone in very rarely watching live football on the box? One of the reasons, obviously, is that I refuse to have anything to do with Murdoch in the house so Sky's a definite no-no, but I simply can't get enthused about watching television football live. MOTD's different - I can watch highlights, and always have done, but for me watching live football should be just that, at a ground, not in the comfort of the armchair.

I remember speaking to a guy in my darts team last year who advised me that he now had High Definition on his all seeing, all conquering Sky package, which cost him about £70 per month. When I questioned his sanity, and the fact that you can only watch one channel at a time, he told me that watching the football in HD "was like being at a proper game" I was speechless........I pay £5 to watch my live games, or £20 per month, he pays £70 and never leaves his frigging armchair. Is it me?

Sorry John, your mate's right, but you need the 3D glasses for extra realism.

When the wife walked past the TV last week during the Fulham/Newcastle game, the little uns, in tandem started singing 'who ate all the pies' and shouting 'sit doooooooowwwwwnn'

You are not alone John. I watched about 30 mins of football on Sunday but turned of as I was so bored.
My team are playing some of the worst football I have seen in 40 years of watching them at the moment.
But watching crap football live is still better than watching the plastic Prem on TV.
I would be very happy if there was no football on TV at all.

I guess it depends how much you'd use Sky Sports. I usually watch Champions League games on Sky and whilst you're watching one game you can watch the goals from the others too, which in my opinion is brilliant. Weekend wise I usually watch a Spanish game, rarely watch Premier League.

The HD is really good but I can't really justify paying an extra £10 a month to watch the same channels. Would be nice to have though.

Then of course there's other stuff on Sky Sports too, I like watching Rugby League, Cricket and NFL so that's all included.

Have the full Sky Sports HD package [exceptionally good picture quality] and ESPN. I don’t come remotely close to watching every game going, but I do like watching the Sunday games, some CL, and also the big Spanish games in the evening (like Barca v Atletico last night) also the German, French and Russian football on ESPN which I dip into occasionally if I’m bored, and of course Scottish football when there is an attractive enough fixture to interest me. I rarely watch Sportscene (Scotland’s equivalent of MOTD for our English readers, but its poorer cousin) and MOTD occasionally, with the Football League highlights as well when rolling in from the pub.

I used to get it all for free when I worked for Sky (John will like that, on the payroll of the pantomime villan......), so when I left and had to start paying for it, it was a bit painful, but then again every year we seem to get offered half price deals to stop us leaving.......... Laughing

I do resent the obscene amount of money pumped into the English game by Sky [and as a matter of fact the BBC as well], and the relative pittance for Scottish, but hey ho. I like watching fitba! (this is all in addition to the 60+ games of fitba I attend every year)

I had Sky for about 5 years - got rid of it back in May.
Found that I was switching whatever match was on just for the sake of it and, unless it happened to be Derby playing, would put the mute button on and do something else, occasionally glancing at the pictures to see how the match was going. Which defeats the point of having the subscription in the first place.

A live match on the telly used to be an event - Cup Final, England v Scotland, World Cup - but you can overdose on it to the point where it totally loses its appeal (as in, oh Gawd, another meaningless "Champions League" group game)

To be honest, I prefer to listen to the radio commentary now and, if there's a game I really want to see (like Derby v Leeds last week) then I know a brilliant website where every single game that's on Sky (plus loads of other games) can be watched on my PC for free anyway.

That actually works better for me as I can pick and choose which NFL matches I watch on Sunday evenings rather than let Sky decide for me!

Funny thing is, I never, ever get bored watching American Football - I guess it lends itself better to the TV whereas, as you say, nothing beats being at a game when it comes to football.

Never had Sky and would never want it. I would prefer to go and watch a game live.
Bring back the old days when you know that at 3 o'clock on a Saturday you know you would get a full programme of matches. Not Friday night, Saturday lunchtime etc.
Then on a Sunday you could sit back and watch the highlights with Huw Johns commentating on Star Soccer but then again I'm a sentimental old sod and I bet there are plenty of us still around.

I got sky , but i don't why as i can see any game i want on the internet for free and the quality is not that bad. But to be honest i find the Premiership bores me silly. It is so hyped up beyond belief and the reality is the games are so poor with non stop cheating. The rot started with the introduction of foreign players who brought the art of diving and cheating to a higher level. Then referees are ordered to book/send off any player for tackling. Tippy Tappy football with no end result. So many faked injuries, the camara fixed on supporters and managers every five seconds. It drives me nuts......

As I recall, the issue of "The Ram" for the next home game had quite a bit to say on the matter!

I have Sky but gave up sky sports when Rangers went tits up. I'm not really that fussed about watching TV games apart from Rangers anyway, even the free CL games on digital TV. I'd rather watch a game in the park between two pub teams.

I can only echo Foxes1 - Kick off 3pm or even 3-15.

7-30 mid week and wait for the results on the teleprinter on a Saturday.

Read the Football Pink or Green which was printed within an hour of the final whistle. Match of the Day Saturday and the ITV offering Sunday.

No Martin Tyler just plain and simple commentary. Easy
