What is the latest situation regarding the Spanish FA issuing programmes? When Scotland last played Spain in Valencia in 2004, the only “programme” that was available was the “Dossier” style VIP/Press booklet which some people do not consider a programme, although when you match it up with a team sheet it’s as good as IMO. It’s particularly rare and goes for £200+ on the rare occasions it becomes available.

Has this changed at all? have the Spanish FA seen the light and now issue proper programmes? Scotland are due to face Spain in October at a venue TBA.

I went to Barca a few years ago and I wondered why they didn't issue a programme. The best I got was a newspaper! Mad

Spain v Scotland in 1982, 1985 & 1988 are even rarer than hens teeth unfortunately Sad

Just trying to find out how many hoops I'm going to have to jump through again in October to get hold of whatever is produced.

England went there in 2009 and there was a tiny thing given away free, can't remember exact but I think it was a 'four page' programme, or a sheet of paper folded in half

The official programme looks something like this.

They are printed in small numbers (approx 200) and very difficult to obtain even at the game. [/img]

If you are at the game go beforehand to the official entrance and beg.

Otherwise try and get a seat in the main stand near the VIP area or near the media area. However I think the media don't get too many either.
you can normally get 1 over the glass/fence.

Watch out for free local newspapers done for the game and given to home fans. also small leaflets with match details but often no lineups.

Spain is a nightmare.

Thanks Gary, so the situation hasn’t really changed then which is a bit of a bugger! Looks like begging in the best option given I’ll be in the Scotland end and probably nowhere near the press box, although I could perhaps go raiding after the game Sherlock

I wouldn't leave it until afterwards. Best chance is before the game. Go early.

You may be kept in afterwards and someone will have done a sweep of the VIP area.

It might even be worth your while buying a main stand ticket and going in, getting a programme and then leaving and entering on your away ticket.

Could be an idea depending on venue/cost, although I do have an iron in the fire press/media wise which may need to be called up to see what the possibilities are.

One thing for sure is that if Spain have not changed their policy towards programmes, this is going to be another rare issue*

* If you consider it to be a programme in the first place!

I'm buying some football progs guide but I know only John Lister's and one for Scotland... Does exist an international guide to know all the programmes of WC and EC qualifying matches ?
I'm trying to buy Italian National Team programme (from 1970 to 1981) but it's very hard...

I've never seen the qualifying WC match prog of Italy-England 1976... I think it was'nt issued or not?

thanks a lot for an answer!

I doubt if any such guide exists.

Spain seem to have issued programmes up to 1961 then stopped issuing programmes probably until the mid 1970's. Nothing known for the Spain v Northern Ireland game you mention in 1970.

However you can see a picture of Spain v Scotland 75 here.

http://www.scotlandprogrammes.co.uk/

If you browse that site you'll get any info on other Scottish games.

Italy issued v Republic of Ireland in 1970 and certainly for some Internationals in the 40's and early 50's but almost certainly not v Northern Ireland 1957.

Your problem will be that such programmes are really really rare. I know of only 3 copies of the Italy v Ireland 1970 programme. Two of these were brought back by a player whose photo was in the programme.

I'm sure some Welsh and English fans can give you an update on their games.

I think it likely that programmes were not available to the public at these games in 70's and before in both Spain and Italy. They were probably for VIP guests and media only.

I know that Valencia did issue programmes for games at one time.
Athletico Madrid did nothing for our 2 games against them in the ECWC and UEFA Cup
The only 1 I have is Spain v England 1987

I only know of two collectors with this programme (and I'm not one of them!) it's so rare that Andy Mitchell's Scotland guide listed it as a non issue.

Hi Gary,

I sold a 1970 Italy v Ireland programme last year on ebay for around £75, didn't know it was so rare, i have a scan of it still and have just uploaded to here at this link:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/38210994@N04/5575137472/

As For Italy v England 1976 really not sure if a programme was issued or not although a lot of Italian matches in Rome there was nothing issued, there were programmes for all the other Italy v England matches except 1952 where just a magazine type programme was issued which had the same cover as the official match poster and postcard but sold outside the stadium,
