Hi All
I have recently purchased a few lots at a sports auction and paid for package and delivery which incidentally cost me £30!! They arrived this morning and were packed so badly that the envelope had split and there are a few items missing from the lots I won. I want to know if the auction house is liable for the loss of items, I am certainly going to ask my money back for the packing as that standard of that was a disgrace, (they tried to put too many programmes in a hardback envelope and didn’t even strengthen the edges with tape)
Just want to know if anyone has experienced this and what was the outcome for you.
Thanks
Martin |

Not personally but I am expecting a parcel/package from the Cameo auction last week.
I think it would be harsh if they are not liable. _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

Would have thought they were liable - only they can be responsible for the Duty of Care to deliver the product whole to you - but £30 seems a tad steep for something that might have squeezed into an ordinary envelope (and someone opening it given the weight of the contents is not that surprising) - if it weighed that much and cost so much to deliver I'm staggered it didn't go recorded or via TNT.
Would be interesting to know how you paid. If it's with your credit card you should get in touch with the card issuer and demand a refund for failing to receive the item - they should repay you and take it up with the vendor. |

it is a disgrace , but doesn't surprise me. I would like to know the name af the auction as well. It's like an inconvenience for them to bother with postal bids, so they just bung them in an envelope and charge £30. And to think people slag off Ebay. |

I received a package from Cameo this morning which was gaping open at the top, because they hadn't taped the edges. Nothing missing, but I expected better form them having had items at their auctions before. Will be contacting them about it. |

Most auction houses say they will not be liable for any damage in transit in their terms and conditions so it will be interesting to see what happens in this case |

Thanks everyone for your input
The auction was Cameo like all of you, and I have bought stuff from them many times without any issues. I was wrong about the amount they charged me for packaging after checking the invoice it was just over £15 for postage and packing so not too bad, thats is if they frickin did it properly !!!
Anyway I will be contacting them tomorrow with photo's of package covered in post office tape and give it my all.
I will let you know the outcome
cheers

Spoke with the owner of Cameo this morning explaining what had happened he was very understanding and asked me to send him photos of the package so he could see for himself and have a word with the bod who packed the item.
he assured me that they will have a good look around their premises to see if the missing item is still there and asked me to call him back next Monday and he would sort out the situation either way.
Overall I am quite happy at this stage, but we shall see what happens on Monday !!
If anyone else has had a poorly packed item from Cameo this week, I think you may want to bring this to their attention as it appears from some of the responses on here so far, that this appears to be a problem with them at the moment and may give them a message to sharpen this part of their operation up.
Anyway, thanks for all your replies

If they state they charge for postage & PACKING then they are obliged to pack the items with care and attention.
If the items were lost due their lack of skill in that area then they are fully responsible for the loss.It doesn't matter what their terms and conditions say.
If they only mention postage in their invoice then you don't have a leg to stand on unless you have written details of how they have agreed to pack the items.
I only ever buy from auctions, that I can't attend, if I can arrange collection. That collection might be a parcel service but those drivers mostly have the sense to tell say if the packing will stand up to it. The only problem I had was a loosely boxes load of magazines were the auction moaned that I hadn't given them enough time to get it packed before sending the parcel service - A week !! |

Got my parcel today and it was well packaged. All present and correct.
Seem like the programmes are as described.
Will inspect them closer tonight. _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

My parcel from Cameo arrived today and was intact. I did ask for it to be sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery, though. |

Only £15 ??? are you kidding? and they can't be bothered to put a bit of tape on the envelope? I won't be playing Russian Roulette with these cowboys..... as i said before i work for the post office.
What happens is, bags of mail are tipped in to what i can only describe as a giant tumble dryer , which sorts letters from packets. I can tell you, any packet not securely taped, has a good chance to be ripped open. To charge £15 for postage and package and not bother to sercure it is a disgrace.

How many programmes did you buy to warrant the 15 quid postage.
They charged me 10 quid for 17 programmes using special delivery. _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

It was 41 programmes ranging from 1914 to 50s however had the 1999 world club championship in there as well which is a big heavy beast and that is what wrecked the parcel
The price of postage on the parcel was £9.73 so the rest was for this chump to sling it all in an A3 hardback envelope. |

Hi All
Just an update on this as promised
I called Cameo this morning and they apologised and have refunded me in full for the item lost, plus the VAT paid on the Item and the postage. Absolutely first class customer service and I cannot fault them on that score. Like I have said in past posts I like many of you have used this auction house on numerous occasions and they offer one of the better sports auctions available and will definately continue to do so.
Good on Cameo....... |
