I got talking to a guy the other day who grew up in Australia and remembers his dad taking him to watch Victoria v Man Utd, he remembers Bobby Charlton playing so it must be early 70s he says.

I cant find anything on this, only the 4 games in Australia and 1 in NZ in June 75, but Bobby Charlton had long since retired by then. The frieldlies Utd played in 1967 are too early as he doesnt think he was old enough to have gone then.

He thinks it was a tournament of some kind as he also remember Celtic and Red Star Belgrade playing. Anybody know anything?

Not sure about Utd, but Celtic played in a tournament in Australia along with Arsenal, Australia and Red Star in July 1977.

I think he may have his wires crossed as the record books say the only time MU played with Bobby Charlton in the side in Australia is going to be on the 1967 Tour when they played the 9 games from the 18th June until the 27th June. Since then with BC in the side they played Celtic in Toronto in 1970, Red Star Belgrade was played 8.8.1976 andby then he was well gone.

Bobby Charlton guested twice in Australia in the National Soccer League. Once for Newcastle KB United in 1978 and once for Sydney club Blacktown City in 1980.
