A group of fans at my club Leicester City have been trying to improve the atmosphere at the Walkers Stadium which like most new grounds is p**s poor, and have formed a group of ULTRAS. This group is based on the foreign ultras and their prime purpose is to support the club and improve the atmosphere at matches, they are against racism in football and are not out to cause trouble. So after the first game of the season what do 22 people do complain they are too noisy.

Do other clubs have this problem at their grounds, if so is football turning into even more corporate minded than people think. But then again I can remember the old days standing on the terraces at Filbert St, which unfortunately have long gone. |

Good posting this. I have had the same gripe about footie matches and music gigs for some time now. I believe the main cause of the problem is not just corporate element but believe it or not the mobile phone! People are too interested in taking video images and photos than cheering on their team! |

Yep we have exactly the same problems with a similar group of 'ULTRA' fans. The club make it impossible for any of them to improve the atmosphere by employing the most petty stewards in that area.
Fans have been refused flags into the ground, told not to drink coke in the stands, told to sit down constantly and even been threatened with having all of their season ticket seats moved!
Ridiculous if you ask me, football won't be worth watching in years to come with all these lazy millionaires running about squeezing money out of the fans and the many over the top safety measures clubs have in place to ruin the atmosphere. _________________ MY CURRENT PROGRAMME WANTS:

Apparently some of them were not allowed into the game yesterday. Those that got in unfurled a banner 15 mins from the end of the game which read "Supporters First Customers Last". You would think that every club would put supporters first, after all a supporter 99% per cent of the time will come back again whether the team are playing well or not, customers won't.
A lot of the problems stem from the fact they are not allowed to stand, health and safety etc, but we have a group of fans who go in the section next to the away fans, they are allowed to stand (But then again there are more of them at the minute). |

One of the problems is that clubs have built lovely new stadiums and then don't fill them.
Look at that match at the Reebok this afternoon.
I went to all the Blackpool games in the Championship last season and more than half had little atmosphere from the home fans.
Blackpool's small ground was rocking yesterday with 3 full sides of tangerine and half of the new stand. When the away allocation is sold out (which it wasn't yesterday) the atmosphere will be one of the best anywhere.
Arsenal last week - magnificent stadium but no atmosphere at all. If it wasn't for the 3000 Blackpool fans it would have been like a morgue even though Arsenal were playing some scincilating football. |

I definitely improves the atmosphere when you have a smaller ground with the fans more compact. E.g. Blackpool, Fulham, Portsmouth.
Teams like Arsenal should have no excuse creating an atmosphere with the sell out 60,000 crowds the get.
Some decent atmosphere matches I have been to are Hillsborough, Bramall Lane and the City Ground, but they are few and far between now. _________________ MY CURRENT PROGRAMME WANTS:

I'm lost for words. A football match is too noisy!! Maybe you should send them application forms for the world snooker championships, then they can watch the match in total silence, and if anyone should have the nerve to rustle in their bag for a werthers original, they get lobbed out. |

Sometimes a ground can be rocking and sometimes it's like a library. Obviously the occasion (important cup tie?), the opposition (big rivals?), the result (and importance) of the match, visiting fans, whether day or night game and sometimes the injustice of p**s poor refereeing can all play a part.
Goodison can be a bear pit at times - it can also be a library! Same at Anfield (don't let them fool you with the 'always a cauldron' nonsense). Old Trafford can be like a mausoleum at times. This is the way it often is at many grounds... |

This is the same at Hampden where in the past they have asked people to produce "fire safety certificates" for flags. Complete nonsense.
It's either a convenient excuse to stop particular flags/banners being brought into the ground, or the health and safety nazis really have gone bonkers. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

My club finally relented and now let the Leicester 'ULTRAS' bring flags into the ground, and even let them sing etc, they don't bother trying to make them sit down either (This is OK with most fans now) as they stand at the back of the stand. At least the club saw sense in the end, unless of course they were worried they might lose some revenue. |

Some of our fans were yesterday banned from bringing flags into the ground because they didn't have a "fire safety certificate", also a couple of weeks ago when we played Scunthorpe some City fans unfurled a banner reading "Keep Scunthorpe Standing" to support the fans of Scunthorpe in their quest to keep standing areas at their ground. What did the health and safety nazis do remove it as it was too political. Some of these idiots would do well to remember that in these days of belt tightening they should be encouraging people to come to games.
Roll on next week at Oakwell at least we might be able to support our club properly and make some noise |

The atmosphere at some Premier League grounds last season was bloody awful. Burnley fans are superb away from home and but for us at Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Hull, Birmingham etc. it would have been like being in a library! And we don't need those godawful drums that you hear at Bloomfield & Bollewood! In fact they are thankfully banned at Turf Moor. |

Boro fans have been banned from bringing all banners and flags in without a safety certificate. They also refused to sell tickets for the 'ultra' corner for the last home match in order to get rid of the noisy section of fans that stand all match, fans have had to buy tickets elsewhere and move around. Absolutely ridiculous _________________ MY CURRENT PROGRAMME WANTS:

I have been told that in the world of Health and Safety, there is no such thing as a "Fire Safety Certificate" for flags/banners.
Therefore, if the club are demanding them, ask them for further information ie who issues them & what information is contained in them, also what do they look like.
I'll bet you they have no idea, in which case knock one up yourself!
As for standing, I note that St.Mirren were having a trial where fans in a particular section would be allowed to stand whilst singing without hassle from stewards. OK, it doesn’t sound much but it’s a very small step in the right direction. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

A twat in our end complained to the stewerds on Sat because I was talking to someone else.
Thank god the stewerd was a good one as he told him to "put up with it or go to a library on Saturdays if he wants peace and quiet" _________________ I am not gas, I am a Pirate.
