http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Football.....cf0ef9986.
This looks like a copy to me. The seller is not a programme seller normally. Does anyone know if this was reproduced?

Thought so. Even though the guy is not a programme dealer, he must be able to tell it is not geniune. I mean it's just too glassy. Shall you tell him or shall i ?

Well I see he's now added that it might be a reprint. Although that's only in the small print at the bottom. Has he gone far enough to make sure someone doesn't get stung do you think?

I emailed the seller ''Is this an original programme from 1939 or a reprint?'' and received this reply

''To be honest I wouldn't know if it was a reprint or not, I can't actually tell, I had no idea it was possible to do reprints of football programs! I inherited the program from my father. I'm stuck on that one I'm afraid, I wouldn't want to lie to you! It might be, it might not be!''

The listing states ''no returns accepted''

AVOID!

There are definitely reprints of this game going around, and this looks like one to me. Probably worth having for a few quid, but not for £7+pp.

It was the last game before the start of the war, and we lost heavily, either 7-0 or 8-0 I think, so probably for the best that we didn't have to play any more matches that season.

The reproduction was given away with the Newcastle v Southend programme at the start of the 1992/93 season and the one in the ebay auction looks like it's the repro, the couple of programmes i have seen from that season certainly had a much more 'duller' look about them. There has been a couple of these on ebay over the last couple of years, if i remember correctly i am sure the last one went for £70 odd quid and that looked like a repro also, realistically even if you didnt know anything about football programmes you would be able to tell whether a document is over 60 years old, surely ?

My sentiments exactly. You don't have to be an expert to recognize something that is supposed to be that old, just looks so new, so it's an obvious reprint. The guy doesn't state if he'll offer a refund.. "it's up to you to take the chance!" he says, yeah right con man, bugger off...
