I see there are two different covers for this years FA Cup Final programme
A good thing, a genuine attempt to make it attractive to the supporters of each team, or a cynical attempt to sell 2 copies to obsessive collectors? |

Is there definitely 2?
Isn’t the programme a double front cover depending on how you open it?
May be wrong as I haven’t got a copy on me. |

There are two different covers for the Everton v Manchester Utd final issue of 1985 but technically one was just a sample.
According to a mate who worked at Maybank Press - printers of club programmes various - it was rumoured that the FA had got into bed with the Sun and the latter would produce a newspaper issue for said final.
I'd imagine, if true, that this soon fell on stony ground but some bright spark did get the go ahead to knock up an A4 issue, which wasn't totally welcomed with open arms by the programme collecting world either.
The difference being that the sample version had a white cover, not black, but thankfully I managed to rescue a few from the recycling bin...along with some Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham issues from that season which had been destined for pulping.
I managed to fill my boots c/o Prog Monthly but if only ebay had been around in them there days... |

I do not know anything about the background other than i was advised quite simply 2 versions were produced one with a White cover, the other with a Black one-both identical content throughout and the Black one was chosen and how ever many White copies were produced were chucked away. This other information re the Sun etc etc is more than plausable back then.
I have had 3 in my time and have moved 2 on for very good prices over the years.

I see that the hardback version has a half red and half blue cover (rather than either cover)
Out of interest, is half the programme in the hardback version upside down? |

Seems that there is only 2 different types of hardback this year. Normally a club wembley, Bobby Moore, Royal box edition etc.
Only seen a club wembley and one other version so far. _________________ http://cardiffcityprogrammes.weebly.com/
