Has anyone heard of a team called Ashley United?

They appear here playing a professional ground. Can anyone identify the ground?

My google searches have struck a blank...

Probably not a great help but there is a village named Ashley here in Cheshire, not far from Knutsford. I suspect there may be other villages of the same name throughout the UK. I have no knowledge of whether they had a football team back in those days.

If anyone has a subscription to the British Newspaper Archive, a search of "Ashley United Football Club" or similar may reveal some information about them.

Google says they are a team from South Africa.

That's what I was thinking too but I couldn't find a suitable shot to compare.

I too thought Maine Road so it’s great to have some others think the same.

Still no clue as to who Ashley United were however?

If it is Maine Road then it is not too far from the Ashley near Knutsford so that is a possibility.

As I said the British Newspaper Archive search is probably the best way forward.
