Great article in today's Guardian.

Didn't know Derek Dougan was a pipe-smoker.

That's one for Phil the Doog collector.

Some wonderful images there, for sure.

Little story about Gary Talbot, I'm not sure if he is or was Howard's son or brother. He used to play for Chester in the 60's, and scored quite a few goals for them. About 15 years ago I had a nice photo of him and a Chester collector asked if it was possible to get it autographed. Somehow, and I can't remember how, I managed to contact him and he said sure, send it up to me, which I did. And a few weeks later back it came.... at least, a crude photocopy did. He'd kept the original and sent me a signed photocopy. And then he never responded when I tried to contact him.

Moving on to Howard Talbot, the son of Wally and a word of warning. Wally was the photographer and he took all those great images. They would (or should) have the Wally Talbot stamp on them. If you see one of those images, or indeed any image from that period, and it has the HOWARD Talbot stamp on it, then it's a later reproduction. Please be careful when either buying or selling to find out or mention whichever stamp is on reverse. Thank you.

I just hate these repro photos.
Garry Talbot was a press photographer who could always be found behind the goals at Goodison Park 60s/70s.
