Like a lot of colelctors of my era (I'm 55 come March) I dislike the modern programme and all it's finance related themes, whether covert or not. I also dislike the format of modern programmes whereeby their size makes storage a major issue. Since the 1985 FAC Final, programmes changed intrinsically from one easily managed to store, to one that is, quite frankly, a nightmare. Postage for these ******* things also costs the earth now due to recent changes within postal charges.
However, this website has taught me one thing, that I am probably in the minority nowadays and it's probably "grumpy old man syndrome" Should I be sectioned with man nappies?

My favorite period for Rovers is the nineties. We had A5 programmes with plenty to read inside. Looking back I feel that the sixties ones were a little small content wise. Things started to improve in the seventies and eighties but it has to be the nineties for me. Must say though I love the ones from the fifties and sixties that had ariel piccies of the stadium on the cover.

I am a bit younger at 36, so have only known 80's onwards. I must admit the modern day programme is a bit on the large side and tends to be very repeterive, which is why I only buy selected games.

I do like the current England home though. I hope they dont change the size/format for a long time. They do have a habbit of doing that!!

I'm about the same age as you Paulo, but I'm with Auckinlechian and Molineux Phil. I think progs are refelective of the time they are produced in, and the modern glossy things reflect the commercial nature of todays game. Although I have only grown up with football from the 70's onwards, there is something nostalgic about the 50's and 60's progs that makes them more interesting to me, and makes me wish I was around when they were produced.

I`m definately a grumpy old git at 49, and though i can spend a good deal of time reading todays 'catalogues", there`s something right proper about the 50s/60s programmes. Can`t quite say why, but the look, & feel as ForestMick says has that touch of nostalgia for me too.

(except the ones where we lost!)

On the contrary, wth my selective memory the losses have been nicely filed into the "we was robbed' area of my mind. Just beause a team scores more goals doesn`t always mean we lost .

Ok, i`m getting desperate!

In terms of New Labour spin, you could always say you came second rather than losing, or it's the game that counts?

I'm 28 and it's interesting seeing other peoples views on this:

With some of the modern programmes especially the league 1/2 teams there are some really good issues out there with plenty to read and really informative stuff, a lot of the premier legaue clubs programmes are poored full of adverts and things like the clubs tv channels, credit card, or other scheme they are involved in, it's just a pain getting to a page where you can read through it and find out what is going on in the club

The older issues 60's and before still gave you all the information you wanted to know about the club, without putting all this marketing crap in, they told you everything and wre eto the point with it all, plus it was a much more friendly attitude in the programmes back then, i remember reading a spurs programme from the 40/50's and it mentioned that they wished arsenal well in an up coming cup game, can you imagine if that happened now??

I still enjoy picking up the odd Gillingham/Maidstone programme from the late 80's early 90's and looking at the line up pages to see which players were there and thinking i remember that guy or he ended up playing in the premier league later (and in most cases thinking how the hell did that happen).

Although if you think that football programmes are bad, think back to the early 90's Argos catalogues nice big thick thing (half what it is now), well that's what some American/Canadian ice hockey programmes are like, when i go to the states, i usually go to about 7-9 games, the programmes alone take up a whole shoe box, most of them make the fa cup final programmes look lightweight in terms of pages.
