Can anyone tell me the teams on this postcard from around 1909 please and the ground the match was played on? I've 'Googled' it to no avail as any listing hasn't suggested the teams involved, just the approximate year.

The card was issued by B.B. of London, is series no.E41 and was printed in Germany.

Thank you in advance.

Google search on "a throw from touch line" shows it coming up on ebay. There's one on ebay now (Buy-it-now)

Thanks for that seand, I'd seen that one listed but it unfortunately has no mention of the teams involved. Same as my one but mine is unused.

Birn Brothers of London were famous card issuers in the early part of the 20th century and printed in Saxony.

Whilst this does not answer the question I would suggest that it may well be southern based team

These 2 were for the 1907-1908 Charity Shield played at Stamford Bridge when QPR played Manchester United, it does not state this but this is that first game. There was a reply in August 1908 which United won 4-0 and i will be hoping for a similar score this week end!

yes i just spotted the same image-sorry! the other image is "a neat dribble" and i will add it to this post later tonight unless someone else beats me to it!

Both from BB in London.

The other cards never have any information on them about teams which we cannot understand ourselves in a marketing world but way back then the sport was in it's infancy and perhaps the publishers wanted generic football scenes on a postcard meaning little to any football followers but just a footie type card

Is that a young Rooney on the front stick in his Everton shirt?

As promised the other card in the series for the 1908 Charity Shield postally used which means that this particular card was for the first match played in May 1908 because this card is date stamped August 10th 1908 and the replay didnt take place until the 29th August.

I have only seen these two cards for the match and now i learn there are 4 in total?, has anyone got them one or seen them as it would be interesting for sure to see, you got one or both of the other 2 Treble?

I'd agree that 'Well Saved' is an FA Cup Final photo taken at the Crystal Palace. The colours would have been added in processing so we cannot guarantee that they match the colours worn, hence identifying the actual game is not so easy, but I'll not argue as to the year.

'An Anxious Moment' has adverts on the pitch side... the wrong way round.

All six cards can be seen on the following page, the other five by scrolling down...

Also have been scouring the web for photos of the opposite side at Stamford Bridge as I thought the cover in 'Anxious Moment' didn't look big enough...

Maybe that photo was not taken at the Charity Shield?

Does this mean that the postcard at the start of this thread (by me almost two years ago - where's that gone?!) is from the 1908 Charity Shield Replay? If so why aren't QPR in their usual kit that they wore in the first game? Sorry if I'm being a bit thicker than usual here Confused

Help appreciated once more please

I've always looked out for football-themed postcards at fairs and used to have one of the ones above "A throw in from touchline" but must have flogged it.

I have these 2 which seem to be the real thing in terms of kits, referee, linesmen, nets etc but no spectators and in the second card one of the striped-shirted players is wearing blue shorts and his teammates are wearing white! Both postally used in 1907.

Does anyone have any information on these two?

Plus I can't resist the jocular ones and have these 2, top one postally dated 1911, second one is a repro.

Nice cards Pete - What is your view on the two teams in 'A throw in from touchline'?
