Hi
Following on from my previous topic a couple of progs I would appreciate your knowledge of valuation if you have come across them at auction houses are
Villa v Blackburn 1906 original first ever villa news vol1 no 1
It is in fair condition for its age, being complete, good staples with little rust. But about 1-1.5 inches torn off the bottom of the back page. The spine has about a 1" tear at the top and bottom and the cover and back page are a little dirty.
Inside it is very clean with no writing anywhere.

The other is the Chelsea v real Madrid 71 final Greek edition
In pretty good condition excellent inside with no markings anywhere.
The cover has a 1" tear at the top of the spine and has a few marks down the spine with a couple of small bits of the top layer missing.
It’s hard to describe but it is like a card and if you imagine when you peel wallpaper off the wall you get some of the top layer comes off and the remainder is still on the wall. It’s a bit like that.
Any help on values or minimums/expected at auction would be appreciated
Thanks

Hi, I can only comment on the Chelsea Real Madrid Greek edition programme, or which I have a copy myself. This used to be one of the hardest programmes to obtain and used to be valued at as much as £400. However, a few have been coming up on Ebay over the past year and the price is around the £90-£160 bracket. I am afraid I can't tell you much more than that at the moment.

I have seen a few Villa programmes from the first year of the Villa News & Record at auction before usually they sell for as little as £90 & upto £150, it really depends on the opponent, against Man Utd, Chelsea, Tottenham & Arsenal expect a lot lot more, Vol 1 No 1 against Blackburn i'd say £250-£300 but i'm no expert, Sportingold recently had Vol 1 No 9 against Bury at auction the reserve was £120 & it failed to sell but number 1 is always going to be worth more,

Ref the Aston Villa v Blackburn programme, 2 things:

1) Has it got the "insert" / "Our Portrait Gallery" picture No1? If it dose this will significantly increase the value (not sure of the value but at a "guess" with the insert £300+).

2) Carefull! As there are reprints of this programme (reprinted in 1974), I`ve seen or presume I`ve seen reprints on ebay as in the listings they`ve said the bottom of the back page has been torn off, this is where the "reproduction" information is (+ a programme/reprint of 35 years is fairly easy to "ruffle up").

As for the Chelsea programme I agree with holtie96, their value has well dropped over the last couple of years, your probably best off keeping it or contacting Sportingold.

Hi
Thanks for the information,to answer your questions yes it does have the portrait gallery no 1 of Howard Spencer the captain(although it is effectively page 3 rather than an insert) I have seen the re-print and understand where you are coming from but you only have to look at this to know its 100 years old and not 35 the colour/texture of the paper etc that no amount of crumpling up could match.
Anyway thanks again for your help

Proberbly in need of a price update but we sold a another with a pen mark on the cover for 399 so we've not been in any hurry. Condition is the key with these ones.
