Not something that I would bother with personally, unless there was an incredibly rare programme and I just wanted to use it as a placeholder perhaps.
If you're planning on buying the original anyway at some point I would think it's just a waste of money really? |

I have a copy (not so much a reprint) of the Sunderland v Notts County programme from our 73 cup run. I sold my copy a few years back and can't afford to replace it with a real one yet.
I have a few old programmes that are re-prints but I agree with Geddon, I'd rather save the money and put it towards the original programme(s). |

The problem with reprints is that over time, if they are not clearly labelled as such, they could be passed off as originals - and certainly will be by unscrupulous sellers. It's not beyond the realms of thinking that it could even become attractive to organised crime now that reproduction techniques can now also involve ageing. A few ell placed very rare programmes from the highly collectable teams could, over a period of 10 days on ebay, net a very tidy profit.
Even if you don't have the expertise to get them professionally aged, reprdouctions can be left exposed to sunlight over a period of time, placed in low heat ovens, etc to simulate ageing and make passing them on as originals that much easier. It's why I sold up my ticket collection a couple of years ago as it was becoming increasingly difficult to guarantee buying originals when reproductions took off big style on ebay.

Well my view is this.
1. You want an original but it's rare / expensive or both
2. You might settle for a reprint / copy / scan in the same way you would happily accept a reprint of an historical artefact like a newspaper from a famous event BUT presumably only until you could obtain/afford an original.
Somehow having the missing link is at least filling the gap (in a partial sense) than having nothing.
An example for me is my Everton collection which, though extensive, is not by any means complete. For one thing I'm not willing to part with hundreds of pounds for pre-war items so rationalised my collection to my life time and, where possible, post-war. There comes a time, at least for me, where it's reasonable to accept copies etc. As an aside to this I copied an original for myself and swapped it (1948 programme) with someone who needed this to have a complete collection. It seemed the right thing to do to make someone else's collection complete (complete is relative since there's always something one hasn't got no matter how minor this particular item might have been!)
So, chill out and accept these copies for what they are!! |

I absolutely don't have any problem with people havign copies, and accepting what they are - as long as they are clearly labelled as such. It is far too easy to be sucked into a deal that promises muh but delivers little bar a headache and a dimishing bank balance. Again, I say, BEWARE! |

Yeovil Town v Sunderland - 47/48 FA Cup.
A reprint went for £30 tonight. (It was clearly marked as a reprint) |

I have no problem with reprints myself.
As long as (as others above have said) they are marked and sold as reprints.
Have a few myself and have also sold a few as well. _________________ I am not gas, I am a Pirate.

I've just found a site selling reprints of the 1970, 1972 & 1979 FA Cup Finals @ £4.99 each.....not bad when you can buy originals for LESS!!!
On a similar note, whats your opinion on "pirate" programmes that seem to have become more commonplace over the past few years? I travel away watching England & British teams in europe & i've been grateful when due to no official programme being printed, there has been a "pirate" edition for sale at the ground. What i'm less keen on, is these "pirates" being offered for sale on eBay etc that were NOT available at the stadium / city centre & have simply been knocked up on a computer by somebody not being straight with potential customers! _________________ http://www.footballprogrammes.webs.com/ |

Pirates were prelavent uring the immediate post war years, up until the late 1960's. They usually bore no relation to the game being played and were sold quickly to unaware punters at big mathes (usually FACup ties involving first division sides) to make a speedy profit for the printers. Thousands could be sold in a matter of minutes by an accomplished gang.
The same thing happens now, mainly in Europe, and as you rightly say they don't even need to be sold at the game. They could be printed after the game and sold on ebay with a glowing testimony by "a fan who attended the game". All total crap, of course, but the one thing that the vast majority of such sellers won't do, to avoid being very heavily fined, is to put UEFA, and Official programme on the front. If in any doubt at all, don't buy them, simple as that. |
