To be fair to the RM or GPO or whatever they are called nowadays, I posted one lot out first class on Friday from Surrey to Northern Ireland and it arrived on Saturday, and I posted another lot on Saturday to Sheffield and that arrived on Monday.

I can't speak for every package I sent out but at this time of year that's not bad - is it?

I fear a strike though for obvious reasons. Shocked

It's the branches not the postmen that are striking

Royal Mail are not going on strike. Some of the main street post offices are, so there should not be any problems with deliveries
I have been in our main post office this morning, and I was told that they will be open as normal. All non-union staff will be working, apparently.

the strike action is related to the CROWN post offices (ie the biggest one in big towns etc).

Nearby post offices should be open as normal.

I hope this helps.
