Just got hold of this one, 10x8", stamps all over the back but no match details whatsoever. I can see Billy McNeill and Bobby Lennox. I would assume the opposition is Hibs - but can anyone substantiate that, please, and any ideas on some players and a date?

Very grateful for any help. Cheers!

Definitely Hibs and it looks like Hampden Park too. I'll see if I can find the match. Pat Stanton on the six yard line on the left ? And John Blackley the furthest right Hibs player I think. The furthest right Celtic player, Harry Hood ?

It is the 1973 Dryborough Cup Final at Hampden Park, which Hibs won 1-0 v Celtic.
That is indeed Billy McNeill, Bobby Lennox and Harry Hood.

The two teams met a few times at Hampden during this era (Scottish Cup Final 1972, League Cup Finals 1972-73 and 74-75, Dryborough Cup Finals 1972 and 1973) but the giveaway is Bobby Lennox at Number 9.

Completely baffled by the Hibs player nearest the ball. Smaller player than the others, best guess is Bobby Smith. Pretty sure it's not Alex Edwards, Alex Cropley or Erich Schaedler

Thanks guys. I knew it wouldn't take long to sort this one out.

So 4th August 1973, Jim Herriot in goal, Hibs won 1-0.

Excellent and thank you very much.

Looking at the team sheet, my guess would be Arthur Duncan....

After looking at it again I think Hulldon has it spot on. I never considered one of our forwards being back in the penalty area Very Happy

I know forwards didn't defend much in those halcyon days, but didn't Duncan have a spell playing full-back at some time too. Not in that game, I know, but maybe he was practising ....

Hibs 1-0 up, defending a corner - probably most forwards would have been back defending.

Thanks again guys.

That was the era of Turnbulls Tornados when Hibs had a team!!!
Either that season or 72/3 I think we scored over 100 goals and Alan Gordon was in the running for the golden boot. We put 6 past Sporting Lisbon in the CWC, 7 past some Albanians, famously 7 past Hearts !!
Defence was full of internationals. Forwards didn't track back so much then Very Happy Very Happy
