While we can all debate the issue of too much football on TV , pros and cons a plenty , while sorting a box of items this week end I found this and thought it worth scanning and sharing .

A Tottenham Flyer advertising the First live 1st TV Fixture back in 1983

with quotes such as - what self respecting Spurs supporter would watch this historical match slumped in front of the telly .
Seat Tickets from £4.50.

An item to start any Monday debate or discussion .

I went to that game, a 2-1 win for Tottenham with a rare Gary Stevens goal.
There was a lot made of the game as it was the first to be televised and I'm pretty sure that among other pre match stuff, we had Chas and Dave playing a gig before the match, but to be fair, back then it was any excuse to get those two on the pitch!

The flyer has a very Jewish look to it. I wonder if that was intentional?

The very first live league match was on 10 September 1960 between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers at Bloomfield Road.

The match kicked off at 6:50 pm with live coverage starting at 7:30 under the title The Big Game.

Unfortunately for ITV, who screened the game, was the absence of Stanley Matthews through injury.

It was a dour game which Bolton won 1-0.

For last Tuesdays away game at Bradford, Colchester put on a first ever beamback transmission at the Weston Homes Community Stadium. They issued the normal matchday team sheet but with Bradford shown as the home team. Has anyone seen anything issued at other beambacks?

In April 1997 I had the slightly surreal experience of sitting in a mainly deserted Roker Park watching a beamback of the Tyne-Wear derby match being played at St James' Park that day.

Sunderland issued a small programme-ette for us TV viewers, as I recall the item had Chris Waddle on the cover (he was playing for SAFC by then).

There was a bit of a dingdong between the clubs that year, which each banning the other's away fans, hence the beamback.

As for other beamback programmes, I think Millwall did one in the late 80s for a trip to Liverpool, and there may (or may not) have been one for Real MAdrid v Man Utd in 1968.

Wolves visit to Darlington in 1998 was beamed back to Molineux. The third round tie was scheduled for 3rd Jan but eventually played on 14th Jan. 4 page issues were produced for each game.

Manchester United also produced one for the away leg of the 1969 EC semi with AC Milan as well as the previous year against Real Madrid. They also produced one for the coverage of Manchester City away in 1992-93, and is a 'proper' numbered United Review. I also recall seeing a Millwall programme for coverage of an away game at Liverpool, though I can't remember which of their two First Division seasons it was from (though I think it was from the first, so '88-89). West Ham also issued a collectors away edition for their Cup Winners Cup quarter final with Dinamo Tbilisi in March 1981.

Liverpool did a full programme for live TV coverage at Anfield of an FA Cup tie across the park at Everton in the 66-7 season.

Leicester printed a teamsheet for coverage of an FA Cup game at Liverpool in 1997.

In May 2001 Blackpool visited Hartlepool for the 2nd leg of the Division 3 play off semi final.

The match was beamed back to Bloomfield Road and a simple 4 page programme was produced (A4 paper folded).

The cover depicted the style of the 1950's home programmes.

They must have used whatever paper they had to hand as there are 3 different colour variations, white, orange and green.

There was also a separate teamsheet produced.

On the subject of beamback.

2011-2

Both Sheffield Clubs provided beam backs for the derby games that season. Both were official issues. Not sure if anybody else has had both League Games in a season against the same opposition subject to beamback.

Official Home Programme at The Lane.

Beamback programme at Swillsboro.

Official Programme for the Sty.

Beamback programme at The Lane

Unusual one from me for the FA Cup match with Everton in 1981 which was beamed to the Odeon Cinema in London Rd, Liverpool. The average price of a stand ticket at that time was around £3.00, so £5.50 seemed a bit excessive to sit in a picture house watching our miserable afternoon. Maybe free popcorn was included!! Sad
