Hi All, got a email to confirm that Chris Gibbs and his hard working team will be doing the excellent fair at Fortress Fratton on the above date , it once again incorporates a history day and stadium tours starting at 10 30 ( I think)
So if your in the area get along for a few hours of enjoyment, I'll be making the trip from Yorkshire can't wait !

I thoroughly enjoyed another well organised Portsmouth "History Day" and Programme Fair on Sunday 29th November 2015 at Fratton Park.

Another interesting number of items displayed that rarely get seen:

The original boardroom table and chairs that were rescued from a skip back in 2006 when our then Russian Chairman showed no appreciation of the Clubs history and ditched them! The set are believed to have come from the Officers Mess on-board HMS Warrior and donated to the Club by the Royal Navy in the early 40's.

A commemorative shield presented to the Club in recognition of their appearance in the Community Shield against Manchester United in 2008. (United won the match on penalties).

The Photograph shows the menu and a picture taken of the Clubs 1948-49 1st Division Championship Celebration Dinner and Dance held at the Savoy Restaurant on the 15th August 1949.

The Photograph shows the Commemorative Shield given to the Club by Linfield Football & Athletic Club as a memento of their pre-season friendly played at Windsor Park on the 27th July 1968.

The Photograph shows a framed 1909 English Cup Tie Programme for Portsmouth v Sheffield Wednesday 6th February 1909 at Fratton Park. This is personally the "oldest" Pompey programme I have ever got anyway near....cracking item!!

I managed to pick a few "bits and pieces" up and meet several of the Pompey posters from this site!! Nice to put some "Faces" to "Names"!! Full marks to Chris Gibbs, Colin Farmery and the rest of the people involved. Not sure about the turn out as the weather was a little on the wet and windy side but all in all another very enjoyable morning!!

Sounds like a cracking event.

Great idea to incorporate a programme fair with a display of rarely seen historical items.

I should have added that admission to the Fair and "History Day" were free with a small charge being made for pre-booked tours of Fratton Park. The Fair also included the "Pompey Pals" project/display of World War 1 artifacts and the history of the Portsmouth Battalions. The "Pompey Pals" project is now a 'stand alone' organisation which aims to commemorate all the men & women from the Portsmouth region who served in any capacity during the Great War, whether at home or overseas. and never came home.

A good exhibition by the look of memorabilia posted on here and a great idea. Thumbs Up

Pompey have a long history and it's good to educate the supporters of their Club's past history. Smile
