Hi All,
As you may be aware, Barrett's mum has breast cancer. I myself have lost a friend to skin cancer, and three members of my family also have it, I'm sure you all know someone affected by cancer too.

I run a young person's project, and for the last 3 years we have took part in the Relay4Life, to raise money for Cancer Research. We have raised around £300 each year, but this year I have set us a target of raising £1,000. Both myself and Barrett have been severley affected by the credit crunch, as I'm sure have everyone else, but cancer still hits people, even when they are facing financial hardship. It is for this reason that I am appealing to the generosity that I know exists on this forum, to help us raise money for a very worthy cause, and hopefully help find a cure for cancer. Please give what you can, no matter how small, and if you give your full address and postcode, we can get an extra 28% on what you pledge in Gift Aid.

Thanks,
Mick.

I'll be doing a few car boots in the late Summer - I'll give you a proportion of my sales. I also lost my brother-in-law to cancer last December.

Is there an address we can donate at?

Any orders placed via this site between now and August 1st will have 20% donated to the charity.

Mick,

Thank you very much for this post. It's not something that I have openly discussed on the forum yet as it's hard to put down into words all the emotions you go through.

Thankfully, the tests came back to show it hadn't spread but she still has to go through all the chemotherpy and then radiotherapy. She only started the treatment last week so we have a good 6-12 months of treatment ahead and it's going to be a real struggle especially with a young baby in the house but we'll be strong for her and I know we'll pull through in the end.

I was thinking of doing one of the marathons at the end of the year in support of Marie Curie, Cancer Research or Breast Cancer care. Or if not that, there is a 10k assault course run by Mens Health around Nottingham in October that I may do.

If you can get a link up to donate or an address I'll make a donation Mick.

Would also like to say your doing a fantastic job mate and cannot thank you enough for all the hard work and effort people like yourself put into raising funds for research for cancer. It really is appreciated.

Hi All,
Thanks for the generous offers so far, hopefully we'll have many more to come!! Last year, we had a Positive Futures (Name of the project I run) Cancer Research web page, but I don't think this is something they are doing this year, which is a shame.
I'm open to suggestions, but I think the best way to receive donations would be by cheque, payable to Cancer Research UK, and sent to: Mick Dawber, 41 Bournmoor Avenue, Clifton, Nottingham, NG11 9LU. I would prefer this, as it is clear that the money is then going to Cancer Research, but if people don't want to do this, they could send any donations to my Paypal account as a gift, marked 'Cancer Research Relay4Life.'
If anyone else has any other suggestions, I'm open to offers.

Barrett, as I said earlier, I've lost a friend to skin cancer, and have 3 family members who currently have it. I also work with 3 women who have all had and survived breast cancer. So I do know what you're going through, I sympathise, and though it might not seem like it, things will get better. However, it is only through the work that Cancer Research UK do, that breast cancer has become more easily spotted and treated, which is why donations are so important.

Could I post my email address on here, so that everyone can see it, or will that be against forum policy, or am I risking losing the £3million I currently have in my Paypal account?!!

Barrett,

Sorry to hear about your mum, but hopefully they've caught it early enough and she'll be OK. They can do loads recently as long as it's caught early enough.

I don't have any money to donate at the moment, but I will certainly give some later in the month when I have some.

Hope it all goes well for you mate.

Hi All,
Thanks for all your kind offers, just thought I'd post to let you know how it went.
In spite of the rain (and leaking tents!!), we managed to complete the relay. I had a piece taken out of my knee a couple of years ago, so I'm feeling that now!! Luckily, just like football, I surrounded myself with youngsters, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been!!

Early indications are that the Nottingham Relay4Life raised around £40,000. which is absolutely brilliant, and there were around 70 cancer survivors there, which just shows that the money raise is working. One sad note was that a team of girls in their early 20's did the race for a girl who contracted cancer a couple of years ago, and thought she was over it, but sadly passed away this year. So, even though we are winning the battle, there is still a long way to go, and every penny raised is vital.
So, thanks once again to all of you who promised your support, and lets keep fighting together. Thanks, Mick.

well done to all involved. Also sad to see this morning that john hartson has found out over the weekend he has brain cancer and is starting chemo today. He has received much stick from cardiff fans over the years but always gave his all for welsh football. Best of luck john. Ayatollah

Hi All,

Just in the final stages of collecting in the money for our Relay4Life for this year, so wondered if anybody had any donations? I just found out today that another of our young people's parents has breast cancer, so it is still something that very much affects all of us. Luckily, with the advances that Cancer Research UK have made, it is no longer as serious as it was, but every penny really does count towards eradicating this potential killer. If anybody would still like to donate anything, however small, will be very gratefully received. Thanks, Mick.
