So what is this exactly? Beer mat? And is it actually football-related? Any idea of its age or rarity? I'm appealing to to the forum's collective expertise on this one. Any information gratefully received!

Baines Shields were issued from the 1890's to the 1920's, usually in shield shape but not exclusively, and covered many clubs and not only football. J. Baines Ltd were based in Bradford.

Price could be about right, some go for a lot more, others not so. Not sure what the market's like on Altrincham.

Others on here will know more than me so watch this space.

I attach the only one I have in my "collection". It measures approx. 80mm x 68mm at its highest & widest points.

As pete says, it's an original football trade card by J Baines. Many thousands were produced with hundreds of clubs named on then. If you Google, "J Baines Cards", you'll get all the info you need.

Some are rare and some, more common. £30 for this particular one is more or less correct.

Thanks guys! I had honestly never seen one of these before and they're great. Some of them are funny too. It'll be interesting to see what the Alty one goes for.

Thanks again! Bow
