Game at fratton park yesterday was stopped for a water break......

What that about !!!!!!

The footballers are in Peak fitness, eat & drink all the right things, rest their bodies.

Is this a new rule by the FA ????

Confused Confused Confused Confused

Wait till the World Cup in Qatar

It's players in gloves and/or tights during the winter months that makes me laugh. Unless it's the goalie.

I was at the Gold Cup third/fourth place play-off between USA and Panama in Philadelphia a couple of weeks ago and the same thing happened.

Upset me out of all proportion. Rest of the crowd didn't seem to notice. Probably thought it was a break for commercials.

Have never seen this in US soccer before, and I've watched a fair amount of MLS.

The water breaks kick-in when the on pitch temperatures exceed a certain level, I believe this is based on medical advice. Seen it happen a few times already this season and a few time in past seasons, whether it is a compulsory FIFA directive I don’t know.

Remember the stooshie at USA94 when Jack Charlton/RoI wanted water breaks. It's not a new thing.

It happened a couple of times at the 2014 World Cup- it was based on on-field temperatures. It happened if it was over 35 degrees or something like that, which I think is fair enough. Can't imagine it was 35+ in Portsmouth on Saturday though!

At World Cup 94 Ireland kickedoff at midday in Orlando and it was near 40 degrees. We Irish go to bits if it tops 20. Wink

There's nothing in the actual laws of the game about this and it has to be down to common sense and discretion on the part of the referee.

I think FIFA's directive is 32 degrees or above but even that could be lower depending on the overall conditions in a particular game.

Believe me It felt like 35+ on the North Stand Lower......I looked like a burnt piece of rhubarb by the time I got home...still an opening day win for the first time since 2006!! Things are looking up......well we tend to do that a lot in this division!! Laughing

I was unlucky / mad enough to be at Cambridge United on Saturday, watching our hideously-assembled bunch of injury-prone, non league journeymen get completely outclassed by Barry Coor and his mates.

Twice the game stopped for water breaks.

It was the highlight of the game to be honest.
