The first big match that I saw was on November 16th 1957, wolves against the Albion. I was attracted to the fixture as wolves were top of the table and the Albion were second. With a friend we travelled to the ground and made our way to the north bank and paid cash on the turnstile. A capacity gate of around 55000 watched a 1-1 draw. memories, excitement and the full spectrum of emotions that is what the game and our hobby is about. I think Derek kevan scored first for the Albion and then Eddie Clamp equalised with a late penalty. The programme sits in front of me in my office and it is my favourite. I open it from time to time and it takes me back. I will try to upload a photograph, never done it before.

First big match I saw was the 1985 League Cup Final at Wembley - Norwich beating Sunderland 1-0

Previous to that all the matches I’d seen had been at Carrow Road.

Sounds like the same problem I've been having since I joined here. Is it telling you "File Too Large"?

Make sure it's only 75 dpi. Reduce size to the smallest possible by cropping it. Try again.

If it still doesn't upload, that's what happens to me. That's why I'm bald.

My first big match

was the Manchester derby 1967/68 season at Maine Road.

I had never seen so many people in one place at one time.

I was 7 and with my Dad and Grandad.

It was the colours of the shirts Blue and Red and the green of the pitch that attracted me first.

Then the smell of food like burgers and onions and cigarette and pipe smoke.

I remember looking at the big stand to my right(Kippax) and seeing a never ending flicker of lights (people lighting cigarettes)

This first memory has always stuck with me and always will.

My first Big Match - Palace v Nottingham Forest, FA Cup 5th round, 20th Feb 1965. Not a "big match"? Well, for me it was, I was 9 and Palace got promoted to Div 2 the season before for the first time since 1925. And for Palace this was a big match as it was our first 5th round FA Cup tie since 1929. A ground record gate of 41,667 packed into Selhurst.

This is my ticket:-

And we won 3-1. So then we were drawn at home to Leeds in the FA Cup quarter final, our first-ever time in the last 8. That must surely be a "Big Match". I can remember queuing for tickets on a frosty Sunday morning, the queue snaked round the ground and back again. The game on Sat 6th March 1965 was postponed due to snow. It was played on the following Wednesday, 10th March, and another record gate of 45,384 was recorded.

This is my ticket:-

This is a press cutting showing the terraces being cleared of snow:-

We lost 0-3. Leeds reached the final for the first time ever and lost to Liverpool.

Here it is.

My most cherished programme.

My first ever match.

Bought by my Grandad.

Dad also there.

3 generations of Blues at a City game for the first time.

We lost this one 1-2.

But won the return league game 3-1 at O/T

We went on to win the League my first season of going.

My first big match was the same year as my first ever game in 1971. It produced an incredible 15 goals and was a Final.

It was WBA v Colchester Watney Cup Final played 7/8/71 at the Hawthorns. Despite West Brom's home advantage the game finished 4-4 and was won 4-3 on pens by Colchester. You should've heard the language from a chap named Barry who was stood near me!

Laughing

Again, my programme is in storage so here's one I made earlier...

Had to wait many years for my first Wembley big match, 1992 when we (Leeds United) beat Liverpool 4-3 in the Charity Shield.
