I am aware of the auction, some nice items. One word of warning for anyone thinking of bidding at the auction. Where as many other sporting memorabilia auctions send out items at actual postage cost or charge a small fee for packing, Staceys use an Jentel Packaging to pack and post winning lots and they are not cheap.
Good luck on anything you fancy, nothing there for me. |

How much is "not cheap"? there's a couple of items that interest me. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

Dangerman can you please try and post at least one message that has all the details needed and correct.
If you bid at the auction you will be a month late !
The correct date is the 27th April. |

Someone i know was charged £30 to post a single programme the hammer price was £35. Whenever i have bought from them i have asked someone present at the auction to bid on my behalf. Suggest you enquire with the packaging company prior to bidding.

My god.
I have never tried bidding on one of these auctions and seeing those postage prices I don't think I will ever try. _________________ I am not gas, I am a Pirate.

That's the starting price for P&P? holy moly |
I took this off their site
Whilst considering your bid, please note that JENTEL PACKING are the company we recommend to obtain a quote from to pack and post your items. Please call them on 01268 776777 to obtain a quote, alternatively you can email them at [email protected]
I am not interested in this auction but anyone else may wish to contact them and ask the question about an alternative prior to bidding-sounds extreme to me that they have outsourced the packaging yet it will be the auction house who actually packs it themselves? surely not sending it out to random's to pack expensive bits of paper??
does this there mean that there is no other option as the "recommend" which is different to saying "only available via"?.or is it hobson's and it's tek it or leave it?
lot 400 1923-4 Clapton Orient v Manchester United a hens tooth as they say, the estimate of 350-500 looks high, but this is against Manchester United, this will hammer for £1000 or even more as sure as tomorrow is Friday! |

As someone who won an item in a previous Stacey's Auction I can confirm that the prices are high BUT based on my experience the item arrived in perfect condition and possibly over packaged (if such a thing exists). My item was a mounted photograph approx. 25x25cm. From memory it cost me £10-15 for P+P.
To reply to Leslie's post: Jentel and Stacey's are in the same building and as I understand it work together a lot so Jentel are not a complete random company and based on my experience do a decent job, albeit at a high cost. _________________ Collecting Nunhead, Dover and Dulwich Hamlet |

"High price" is an opinion by the winner, the underbidder and the non collecting collector, who just likes to chat about what he thinks.
He has his wife's permission to do this as he didn't spend.
The postage is only relevant if you didn't know about it and phase it in.
I once stood next to a collector/dealer at Graham Budds magnificent auctions
They were looking at "a box of shit" for those collecting collectors whose wives had a say
They were working out what they could sell for 50p,what would fetch 75p and what could go for 99p
A nicker was too off putting
Having established the probable selling price they added in the bus fare to view plus the bus fare to bid plus a taxi home(well it was a big box of crud)
They then calculated the top bid
By this point having listened to this serious debate i didn't know whether to go for a drink or to commit suicide
I know what some of you would have voted for but i went to Harrods for some wine(and cheese)
