Just a quick heads up to anyone who might be interested in attending.

The long running bi-annual Programme Fair, organised by Chris Gibbs, will now be combining with a memorabilia and history day, organised by the Football Club, in an attempt to boost interest and attendance.

Stallholders will be -

Chris Gibbs – Portsmouth FC, current season other teams and display of memorabilia
Andrew Murray – Southampton FC, current season and big match
Ian Hands – Various items from most teams, old and current season, big match and internationals.
Colin Boulter – Old and current season, big match and internationals and other memorabilia
Bill Priddy – Portsmouth FC, all types of cards, photos etc
Mick Mulford – Mixed Portsmouth memorabilia plus other teams
Steve Byrne – mainly Portsmouth FC
Mick Hall – Main Portsmouth FC dealer
Grahame Farmel – Shirt framing plus other Portsmouth FC memorabilia

The PR issued by the club is as follows -

Pompey’s rich history will be the focus of a special day of events at the ground, including tours of the stadium – on which children will go free.

On Sunday April 19 (11am-3pm) – the day after the home game with Bury - the club is staging a History Day, centred on the twice annual programme and memorabilia fair, which will be held in the Victory Lounge under the Fratton End.

A display of club memorabilia will also be on show, encompassing the 117-year story of the club, including the replica FA Cup presented to the club for winning the trophy in 2008 as well as some other artefacts which rarely see the light of day.

There will also be a exhibition by the Pompey Pals project, which is a charity devoted to telling the story of the men from Portsmouth who signed up for duty at the outbreak of World War One

Entry to the fair and the displays will be free, but the club is also organising tours of the stadium, including the dressing rooms, tunnel area and boardroom of the iconic venue. Priced at just £10 for adults, with accompanied juniors free (instead of the usual £5) the club hopes they will prove popular.

Colin Farmery, who oversees History and Archiving projects at the club said: “Pompey has a fantastic history it was felt the programme and memorabilia was an ideal opportunity to showcase even more of the club’s unique archive.

“There is a small team of fans, all passionate about the club’s history, who are behind this event. In the coming weeks we have a number of other initiatives we hope to be able to reveal about the day, but we are sure the tours will prove a positive attraction.

“We are always being asked if there are organised tours of the stadium and we thought this was a good way to open them up to more fans at an affordable price for a family.”

I will be assisting Chris Gibbs on his stall. If you attend, particularly PompeyPhil, pompeypete or PompeyGaz, please stop by and say hello.

Great post to publicize the fair ,I'm 99% certain to attend as its probably at least 5 years since I missed one, unfortunately I won't be fetching any chocolate with me on this occasion as I haven't found a way of fooling the new security cameras but we're working on that one for next time. Will certainly introduce myself on the morning because no doubt I'll be there before the official start time, can't seem to time it right on a Sunday from Leeds. Once again thanks for the information and I look forward to being there

Cracking Programme/Memorabilia Fair and History day at Fratton Park today......a big Thank you to Chris Gibbs, Colin Farmery and all concerned for putting on a great event. I visited the Fair with my father who wanted to see some of the Clubs Memorabilia. It appeared to me to well up on recent numbers and the History Section displayed was a great addition. Perhaps this could be done each year with different items displayed? In addition the Pompey Pals display of World War 1 artefacts was fantastic and of great local interest. The "stadium" tours also appeared to be popular......and for once it was good to see so many kids there......the future of the Club and perhaps even the hobby!! After yesterday's usual fare at the Park it was nice to come away having enjoyed myself!!

For those that couldn't make it or maybe interested I have attached some photographs of some of the displayed memorabilia on show:

The last photograph shows the 2008 FA Cup Replica awarded to Portsmouth and former 1939 FA Cup winning manager Jack Tinn's "Lucky Spats".

Great Event which appeared to me to be well supported (at least more so than previous events). I managed to add some more Portsmouth and Jimmy Dickinson related items to the collection.......so Well Done to everyone concerned. Clap

Having been to Chelsea's museum, just to see the London War Cup I may add - nothing more! - they have replicas of all the trophies they have won over the years, Championship, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Euro Champions etc. I believe all winners get a copy. The League cup copies were miniatures.

I think your right wanderpaul attached is a photograph taken a few years back of the trophy cabinet at Fratton Park.....if you look to the right hand side of the top shelf you can see a small replica of the FA Cup given to the Club for winning the 1939 Cup Final. When this gesture first started I don't know.......does anyone?

A quick update on this event.

I am told that approx. 140 people undertook the guided tour of the ground and overall in excess of 300 people attended the event.

A lot of hard work by everyone behind the scenes, but a very enjoyable and successful day.

Most people I spoke with who were there for the programmes managed to purchase something for their collection (myself included), so a lot of happy people.

One of my colleagues on the stall did speak with a lady whose Grandfather made one appearance for Pompey in season 1931/32 and she was wondering about getting the programme. He did explain that these do not come up very often and did mention the possible cost, which was a bit of a surprise to her. However we both have the programme in our collections, and have subsequently checked, and he does not appear in the team line ups which is a shame. However I have a copy of the match report from the local paper, and he is mentioned, so we are getting this to her as the next best thing.

We have also had a few people come forward who have items that they would be prepared to make available for display at future events, so hopefully this can be the first of many.
