I received my catalogue yesterday and as someone who has never bid on any items at your auction before was amazed to read that you do not take payment by Debit/Credit Card - is this correct or have I got my wires crossed somewhere?

Hi,
The cost of thes facility for two sales a year would not be economical, both to the client or ourselves.
We do of course accept payment by bank transfer.

Thanks very much for the reply Rob - bank transfer is pretty much instant these days so quicker than processing a card payment anyway.
Fingers crossed I win something now!

Bank transfer is easy and less costly as said above - personally I hope that it will become more common as well, especially with the slow demise of cheques........ |

Unfortunately the day job still pays more than selling football programmes so I'm afraid its the saleroom for me and hope I don't miss anything like last time _________________ Andy |

Very busy room today (record numbers for the day before sale).
Open again at 8.30am in the morning for viewing, until 12.15pm, for a 12.30pm start.
Still time to enter commision bids (save on the 3% online charge). |

Hope the auction went well today, looking at the amount of lots passed, not sure about that.
You lost one customer, by not ringing for a phone bid that had been arranged beforehand.
Does not make good business sense !! |

Have to say I too noticed the large amount of lots passed. Maybe SM need to reassess their valuations and where they open the bidding on their lots. |

Although there were quite a few unsolds as discussed above there were areas that were very strong eg Wimbledon, England and the West Brom collection so the auctioneer was probably happy. |

Great Auction Location in a good countryside location
The room was packed with bidders, a lot of top dealers and top collectors were in attendance. It was well run with lots of helpers and a professional set up from start to finnish.
I personally only purchased 4 lots but viewed lots for other people.I bid £400 on 6 Albion bound volumes 1947 onwards. and didnt get any.
There was a lot of good prices around the unsold lots were overpriced by the vendors and not the auction house.
Vendors have to be more realistic when putting items in auctions its no good putting a high estimate on items the market and climate has changed.
From a personal point of view all the dealers lots should have an early start. The single items for collectors can be made with a comission bids.
Starts should be from 11am as 12.30 to 7.30 on is a long day.
Good to see some some forum members, especially Bob Frank+ Elvis they are great blokes and completely the opposite of me.
Young rich and full of energy.
Funny part of the day I followed an older car from ROYAL SUTTON COLDFIELD.. It was driven by an elderly gentleman at speeds of over 70mph.
The funny thing was he had a dog, its head and half its body out of the car and its 2 paws were resting on the wing mirror almost completly out of the car.
I followed him to the Auction he was an old boy that collects Castleford Rugby programmes, he had driven from Yorkshire with the dog in that position. |

An interesting point Bazza.
If I enter an item for auction and tell the auction house I want a fixed reserve but the auction house knows that it will never sell at that price, then I assume they tell the seller and suggest a lower estimate / reserve.
But does this actually happen?
It seems a waste of the auction house time in having lots at unrealistic estimates / reserves - unless they charge a lotting fee for each lot, which would offset some of their costs in handling / marketing the item. |

I know lot 195 a Mjondalen v Cardiff in the Cup Winners Cup 69/70 sold for £70. Not sure how much the buyer fees were (+VAT)? But that is a good price for the buyer. A couple of years ago that was a £150 programme, maybe the condition let it down?
Lot 936 Bristol Rovers v Cardiff Friendly at Badminton park in 1953 was estimated at £60-80 so not sure if it sold as that is a little high on the estimate. Anyone know how much it sold for, if it did.
It is shame that they don not publish realised prices etc, but I respect their privacy. I do like to see though if I've missed a bargain, or missed something that was sold for much more than I would pay. |

Nothing to do with privacy as those who were there or listened in on the internet know the prices but not necessarily what met the reserve.
Robert usually publishes the results on their website. I am sure they will appear soon. |
