FIRST DAY POSTAL COVERS-LOVE EM OR HATE EM!

Like most kids of a certain age i was an enthusiastic stamp collector, which lasted for a few years and then i moved on to other things.

I was attracted by these covers when they started to appear in the late 1960's/early 1970's, good idea i thought and i used to visit the chap at Dawn and buy a bit off him at that time.

However, these days there seems little interest in them-i have hundreds of United ones but eventually they were getting produced for any reasons and now i guess in the main you cannot give them away unless perhaps if they are signed as well as being from an important match or period.

I have not uploaded that many to date just a handfull, but my favourite is from Argentina when someone went to Buenos Aires in 1968 when United play Estudiantes and the 1968 European Cup item-i suspect that those 2 alone are valued more than other several hundred!

Not really my area of interest, although I do have several signed Tottenham ones somewhere, which I bought for the signatures and not the covers. I will dig them out and share later on.

Your collection displayed is really nice and I guess if put in some sort of album would look really impressive.
As you say, probably not a great deal of value in the main, but nice to have.

I like them, however being a Palace collector, the events they 'cover' are patchy at best, especially considering that our history is not littered with numerous events of glory!!!

When we do achieve a final, semi final or play off, I do seek the cover out, but it's just not that often!
