As far as I am aware this is the Holy Grail for Liverpool collectors? With the hostilities at the time between the 2 countries and no away fans travelling I read that there are only 8 known copies.

I don't know if mine is one of the 8 but it has the score on the front cover and I've had it since 1979.

LFC collectors may remember dealer Jimmy Quine from the 80's, he told me that one sold for £800 in '84

Anyone know the value of one today?!!

Just out of curiosity, do you know if the programme from this fixture a few years ago (2010 I think) is rare? I know Liverpool never took many fans, but is it still easily available?

Don't think it's particularly rare, maybe around £15.00? The vogue these days seems to have shifted towards newspapers with one for this game currently on Ebay for £40.00.

A newspaper previewing the AEK game in 1972/73 sold last week for £127.00!!

It is certainly one of the hardest of Liverpool's European aways. I bought a copy in the late 80's from a lad that used to arrange transport for London-based Man Utd fans & did a bit of dealing too. From memory I paid around £370 for it. Sold it around 1999 when I disposed of most of my collection - went for about £700 as I recall.

You were right about the travel problems at the time. Uk in Turkish bad books for backing Greek side in Cyprus "war" & :iverpool couldn't even take journalists in official party never mind fans. One lad did somehow get there though & without a visa & travelling overland. He ended up sitting on Liverpool bench for safety! Mentioned in Stevie Heighway's autobiography. He brought about 5 copies back & these seem to circulate/exchange hands from time to time.

No idea of current going rate but suspect still high 3 figures.

That's a proper football story. Love it.
