I received John's e-list and noted two programmes that may be of interest to me in my pre 1960's non league in the FACup proper category. One of them was in the Sportingold auction, Stockton vs Mansfield 1951-2, which is a real rarity, and so I said I'd see if I was successful with that one first.

I dropped out at about the £50 mark, and it eventually went for £100, which works out at about £120 inclusive of commission. I'd forgotten about the other one by then but John got in touch to say auction finished the next day if I hadn't been successful with it. Having realised what it went for, and what I went up to the first time I put a bid in for £51, never expecting to win it. Got an email today telling me I'd been successful, and it would have been so easy to have ignored my bid and put the programme into another auction with a minimum bid of say £75 against it and probably having no problem at all in getting at least that as it appears to be in better nick than the Sportingold one.

Thanks John, it's the wee things like that that make things seem worthwhile in the end.

John is one of the few dealers left with morals. A first class human being.

Just to add my two cents worth. I have bought a number of pre-league Wycombe Wanderers programmes from John on a couple of occasions recently, not only were they in excellent condition, but reasonably priced as well...top bloke indeed.

I visited John at his business premises in Dunstable 3 or 4 years ago after he had picked up a small collection of late 50s/early60s Bishops Stortford programmes. He made me very welcome and bought me lunch. Once I had checked on the Stortford programmes I needed he was happy for me to browse at my leaisure through some of his non league stock.
I spent an enjoyable few hours with John and would thoroughly recommend him to anybody who has not had any dealings with him yet.
