These in my opinion could help...

1. Play the best players based on current form, not reputation.

2. Only play a player in his best position. None of this 'play Rooney on the left' nonsense. We've got better players for the left side and if Rooney isn't currently the best option in his best position (through the middle), then don't play him.

3. Pick players to fit a formation, not the other way around.

What else?

The majority of players in every team must be English-qualified.

One question for the OP - not saying that Rooney is a great player wide left, but who do we have who's better in that role?

Sterling, Townsend, Baines (better going forward than defending), Oxlade-Chamberlain..

............& Shaw.

Sterling is all right footed and played in the middle (and he started out wide v Uruguay and wasn't in the game), Townsend wasn't out there, the Ox wasn't fit & Baines was playing left back already.

It's a problem position and has been for ages.

Why is it every time England get beat the need fixing ?

People don't concider that if you have the luxury of many players to choose from you are able to decide a template of play and then drop people into that template. If one doesn't work well you have others to try till you get what you need.

With all the UK teams it's a case of fitting the best of what you have into a way of playing. That means we are lead by the types of players we have to play the type of football they can cope with.

This world cup has took me by suprise, it's like the officals have turned the clock back 30 years. At the same time we've gone with silky skills & speed on the break. Our players could stand up to the rough house tactics after all the soft free kicks they are used to winning in the premiership.

That and we were still TESTING players and Gerraid in the holding role. Seems like we simply walked into a trap. As for the defending ? well you could go on for days on that. There again Baines Shaw not really proven to do the job needed at that level.

I think Roy knows what he's doing, people knock him for his club managment but he's the man for the national team with far less things to worry about.

I don't buy into all the "I'm going to go away and decide on my international future" nonsense with Gerrard and Lampard.

Unbelievable arrogance.

Frankly, the decision isn't theirs to make.

Totally agree with that, strang thing is the only player I've heard say the same is Rooney but I note he won't get any credit for that. Why would he as he earn £300k a week so must be the devil.

Thats exactly what the Great Sir Alf did and look at the English players that were at his disposal. The system was revolutionary and he could possibly have picked another 3 or 4, 22 man squads from the first division and still been close to winning the World Cup.
It's the only time England have won anything, and lets be honest & realistic here, unless there are major and drastic changes made to the Premier Division it ain't gonna happen again. I'm just happy I was around
to see it Love
