(Not a Luis Suárez topic)
Whilst driving to work the other day, I thought to myself what is the figure that would make me seriously consider selling my personal collection.
Given that my Grantham collection consists of just under 3000 programmes I started to 'tempt' myself with figures, thinking that the re-sell value of most of the recent programmes would almost certainly be less than cover value, going back to the 1930's and 40's it would have almost certainly held it's value to what I paid for it)
I don't think I'd be tempted for anything less than £3500, if I was to get an offer of that I would then almost certainly look at the collection closely to consider it's real montary value, rather than what it's worth to me as well. The thing is I don't 'need' the money at the moment, nor am I considering selling it, but I'd be interested in what others felt their collection is worth.
(For the purpose of this I haven't considered my 100,000 stock programmes in my summerhouse) _________________ www.programmehut.com - The Internet Dealers

I have certainly considered how much insurance cover, because selling is unthinkable. Maybe a third of what I paid for them would be the actual value, mainly due to continuing the futility of collecting current issues. |

I have had my collection valued for insurance purposes but have never dreamed of selling.
Some of my earlier programmes belonged to my father and there are one or two in there from my grandfather.
When I am no longer around they will pass to my sons and hopefully the inheritance will continue.
I could never bring myself to sell my main Blackpool collection but I may stop buying current issues soon. |

very interesting question and funnily enough I was asked by a non-collecting friend how much would it take to sell up on the train home from work last night...
In truth, I can't really answer it - I don't ever want to sell my collection but in reality everything has a price so if I was ever offered a decent price then I would certainly consider it - not sure what that figure is though.
As for current season - they continue to offer the same dilemma every new season in respect to cost and space against the collecting bug of must have them etc...no doubt in a few weeks time I will be sitting in the spare room with a bundle of pre-season friendlies and a handful of league issues deciding where to put them. _________________ Nuts and Bolts Web Design

Not for sale!!
Let's say you receive £250,000.....mmm, very nice, thanks very much. Let's bank that cheque.
But - collecting/filing/cataloguing/indexing/ is in your blood.
What use is money in the bank when it comes to scratching that particular itch??
As regards modern-day issues - beware technology and the pace it moves at. Any dilemma about whether to buy may soon be replaced by a nostalgic "remember when there was a programme?"
It will only take one major or even semi-major club to opt out and the rest will soon follow suit. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/derby1884/sets/ |

Not for sale, until I at least retire which is a long way off yet, that is unless someone offered silly money which simply won't happen.
As for the current season dilemma, being mainly an International collector I don't have too many issues to worry about in that regard. _________________ https://www.flickr.com/photos/footballprogrammes/albums |

Trouble is that the run of the mill stuff from 1960 not worth a light.
This was bought home while watching an auction during the week.
300, yes 300 swansea programmes struggled to get £15
Good investment for the dealers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________ RESPECT..................

I can't see that happening anytime soon at Rangers Steve, it is still a nice bit of revenue and of course it isn't collectors that is responsible for the bulk of the sale of programmes, they are still a very popular part of the matchday experience. I can understand smaller clubs wanting to give it up if it is not very profitable to produce. We know that Queens Park only do an online version but they have drawn Rangers at Hampden in the first round of the league cup,I would put money on it that they will produce a programme for the match. |
